Given our Prime Minister's recent pronouncement on 'Green Cr*P) it is to be hope that all of these stupid subsidies will be stopped completely.

However this is the thread for 'Free Solar Panels' i.e. from 'Rent a Roof' companies where those firms get the subsidies and their customers get some free electricity in exchange for leasing their roof space for 20 years.
If you want some information on paying yourself for a system, you will find loads of information on costs/subsidies etc on the Green and Ethical Board on MSE0 -
My roof is not quite due South but SSW with no nearby trees or shadow,so im looking into Solar Panels, and well done "MSE"!
Ive just watched the "Ashadegreener" video that says they will install&supply for free, and any spare electicity produced is mine to use or feed back (FIT)
in the video the said they gain from a higher "FIT",this is there profit?
so is this a better option than me paying for my own install&supply? same difference without the outlay?
Thanks for any help on the question.:T0 -

I suggest you look at the many threads in the Green and Ethical Board on MSE for advice.
There is no doubt that if you can afford to fund PV panels yourself it is a better bet than the 'Rent-a-roof companies(RAR). It means you get the subsidies.
If you do go with A Shade Greener or similar companies you have to sign a 20 year lease giving them rights on your roof. This is binding on a new owner if you sell the house, and will put off some people. Also despite what A Shade greener say, some banks/BS will not give a mortgage on houses with RAR panels.0 -
as DrCazza, we also have the same problem. applied for a shade greener solar panels, they say or roof needs to be facing south and be free from shade. Our house gets sun from early morning to late evening, so not sure what they mean. sent several emails to them but they have not replied, what does one do to prove our house is so suitable. be different story if we purchased from them. thumbs down for a shade greener...:mad:0

I had read that arrays no longer need be facing a particular direction anymore.
I'd post the link but I'm a new member and unable but the following replacing the dots may help

There has always been output from panels regardless of their orientation and the angle(slope) of your roof.
However facing due South, with no shading, gives the optimum output.
The Rent a Roof firms want maximum income from the subsidy they receive, so will go for houses that give them the best return.0 -

Im looking forward to moving into our new housing association home which comes preinstalled with panels. Any saving is ok by me. Even if we don't get the extra benefits. The Raglan rep stated that electric will be close to free during the day. However I must say the jury will be out on that one.0 -
For a solar panel system totally paid for yourself, you get paid for the amount generated by FIT etc.
Do you have to pay tax on this money at all?
If you do have to pay tax, can you offset it against the sum you paid for the installation, so that for some years no tax would be payable?0
