Look up any hotel in the world, from the Ritz to the Waldorf Astoria, and every single one will have at least one bad review.

This is going to sound incredibly sad but I really enjoy looking at the reviews of some of the top hotels in the world and choosing only the poor reviews and having a laugh at some of the petty things the well-to-do complain of.

It's even more funny when the hotel replies with a just as petty, arrogant reply, or when they totally contradict what the person said. :rotfl:

E.g., "The room was filthy. There was urine stains on the bed." Hotel reply, "Madam, I think you'll find those were YOUR urine stains and our housekeeping haven't seen a mess like that in all their years."

Tay you mentioned the ritz, how about this little gem of a snippet:

"The Ritz enforce a dress code but making socially inept, rude people dress up (we were next to some in the queue and there were more inside) does not contribute to the ambiance...far from it. Of course the previous 2 hour Tea slot before our 2 hour slot had not evacuated (or been kicked out yet....you can't linger beyond your two hour slot unlike at other top hotels) and so although resident, we joined the queue in which there were four women in front of us who were absolutely disgusting as they commented loudly about others in the queue, while sniggering. Posh it wasn't. “Tea” should start at 3pm and end at 6pm and be civilised."

Found this in the Savoy. Not sure if it's tongue in cheek or actually legitimate:

"This hotel is extremely overpriced and extremely over rated. The afternoon tea was shocking and when one called for room service one had to wait for an hour until some man bought me tea in a chipped tea cup with most of my tea splashed on the side. The wasn't good and one couldn't get to sleep because of all the noise outside. Because of my tiredness my buisness deal was lost the next morning. One was hoping to be relaxed but one got the exact opposite. Afternoon tea was expensive and the service was sloppy. I would highly reccomend that you do not stay at this hotel."

In another lifetime ;) I worked in the offices at the 5* hotel in Scotland.

If you'd seen a top-notch hotel behind the scenes, you'd never stay in one.:rotfl:

Sometimes reading the worst rated hotels are hilarious. Like the one my DH stayed in that someone described as looking like an asylum seekers hostel :rotfl:

I just looked at the reviews for a hotel I remember receiving a lot of complaints for when I worked in the industry. It seems to have improved alot since then, but this one made me guffaw:

"I can honestly say that before I even think of coming back here I might have a better nights sleep at a bus shelter."
