sister in law said the reviews states " lot of germans and russians" . No english on the t.v. Who goes on holiday to watch t.v. I say.... Someone else mentioned they had a 4 hour delay there and 2 hour delay coming back. That is something you really don,t want to read and they haven,t even gone yet.

Pool, accomodation and location was all great.

I sometimes think people will have a winge as they have nothing else to winge about.

Not a hotel in turkey by any chance is it? If so; I read trip advisor last year when looking to book; hotel, location fab but lots of Germans and Russians. As I wasn't planning on going on holiday to make friends and just to relax it didn't worry me at all. Most of the reviews were spot on; I loved my holiday; Russians and all.

oh thanks, yes by all means

    The Royal dragon hotel. Antayla

Let me know what you think

    Cheers

We stayed at the Blue Waters resort in Side; read the comments and I bet they're not far different BUT it was an amazing resort, incredibly clean, plenty of sun loungers, immaculate rooms and friendly staff. She will be fine!

PS: Blue Waters is ranked #19 in Side and was fantastic so I'd say #5 would be pretty spot on.

I'm neither German nor Russian either but I didn't find it that offensive.

Maybe the review also said that neither nationality queue as we British do.
Nothing wrong with that but it can annoy some people, especially if they have queued for, say, a buffet and other guests push in.

Or maybe it said that they get up at stupid o'clock to reserve sunbeds.

I take all nationalities as I find them rather than generalising and quite enjoy talking to people from different countries.

We found it highly hilarious watching the antics at a hotel we stayed at years ago in Tunisia.
It was the last couple of weeks of the long-stay period and we were the youngest couple there by about 30 years.
Dinner started at 7:30 and by 7pm, the 'oldies' had started to queue, rattling walking sticks and zimmer frames like sabres.
We just waited for an hour or so for the queue to die down.
I might have made that point in a review (if I'd done one) but it wouldn't make me ageist - at least not in my opinion.

I think we'd need to know exactly what the review said about Russians and Germans for it to be deemed offensive or not. :)

Exactly the point I was making.

Does she know for certain that she can cancel and get a full refund or at least transfer her booking to a different hotel with no monetary loss?

If she can't do either of those things, all the poring over the 5% negative reviews won't make a blind bit of difference unless she is happy to lose money on this holiday.

Nope, they are flying out on saturday. My brother is going nuts with it all as he just wants a break and can,t see no problems what so ever.

So, all this worrying and agonising over the place she's booked is all a waste of time 'cos even if it were an absolute hell-hole, there's probably very little anyone could do at this late stage (other than try to prove the Travel Agent mis-sold the holiday, which in this case seems not to have been the case).

All she's done is spoil the anticipation of her and her OH's forthcoming holiday.

Time for her to learn a couple of lessons:
    1. If she's going to take any notice of reviews at all, read them before she books.
    2. If she's going to take any notice of reviews, explain to her how they work and how she should be interpreting what is written in them.

Better still, show her this thread. ;)

Hope they have a great holiday.

You have to take into account that anybody can post on trip advisor. You could have the most laid back couple who take everything in their stride, five stars, or you could have the most nit picky neurotic couple, one star. The 10 most recent reviews are a helpful guide, but nothing more than that, and totally ignore reviews from over a year ago as a change in management can flip the hotel around drastically.

One of my favourite restaurants here has dire reviews, mostly to do with apparent rude owner or slow service, the owner isn't rude he's eccentric but some people perceive him one way, and its a bit slow as he's chef and front of house all in one, but that's part of its charm. There's nothing quite as authentic as hearing a Greek man cause a ruckus due to being busy!

    5 out of 220, that's great! I wouldn't be worried at all.

I stayed in the 12th best hotel in Side & it was a great hotel. The one I was talking about earlier with the German & Russian entertainment! Side is full of Russians & Germans it's not just that particular hotel.

Personally we hated Side & we'd never go back however the hotel was really nice so we only left it twice which is not what we'd normally do on a holiday at all. The hotels are the best things in Side!

I have a friend who sounds just like your sil...does her name begin with M? :) She had a recent moan session recently about something her partner had bought that had got pretty good reviews on amazon but did have 4 negatives. Another friend of ours asked M whether if she found out that 4 people disliked her partner, would she leave him and look for another man that everybody liked. Seemed to get the message through :)

Just wondering if your SIL had a disastrous time on holiday or if it was nice in the end?! :)

Hope that she remembers to write a TripAdvisor review of it! ;)

TripAdvisor is good, but (as with everything in life) take it with a pinch of salt. Some people just love a moan.

Also, people tend to be more inclined to post a bad review than a good one.

Also, Americans moan about EVERYTHING. Tiny crack on a floor tile behind the toilet, invisible to the naked eye? They'll find it. :rotfl:

When I first used TA, years ago, to look up a hotel in Paris, the reviews were generally good. But I panicked when I read a few bad ones. My friend (who was a bit wiser) pointed out that the bad reviews were all from Americans, and most of them complained about the size of the rooms! LOL.

Look up any hotel in the world, from the Ritz to the Waldorf Astoria, and every single one will have at least one bad review.
