have done a free trial with ancestry before, found it hard to cancel. ancestry is free to use in your local library and it includes all the locked documents.
if anyone fancies downloading any Medal Cards, Pension Records or Service Records from WW1 for relatives , they are FREE on www.ancestry.co.uk until the end of the month

Be careful - I hadn't used their image viewer before so I downloaded it. Every time I tried to use it, it crashed my system (I'm using Firefox and Windows XP). Stick to the library!
