Help! My phone 4 won't connect to the internet? :0(

he doesn't need a mobile shop to check the settings, if he has changed handsets and the handset was on another network, then yes the settings maybe incorrect, he can request the new settings or input them manually.
Yes depending on where the user is, wifi can be limited, fortunately I can get onto BT fon, and this month I'm attempting to get through the month on 0Mb data
Just because you have some weird idea of running around chasing wifi hotspots doesn't mean it's a good idea for the OP with unlimited mobile data.
So if some reason the phone has the wrong APN, you think a total beginner should set it up themselves?
With the whole EE/T-Mobile/Orange mix up it is possible the handset could be a problem. Also, the possibility exists that the OP or someone trying to help could already have messed the APN settings while trying to fix the problem.
The easiest way to rectify the problem would be to go into an EE shop, hand the phone to staff and say "fix".
It's a new contract, it's up to EE to sort out (and should really have been done at connection).====0 -

Everybody's ideas are as valid as yours, I do not notice board shark next to your user name
I don't have to chase wifi spots, if you didn't sdelectively read what I wrote, you would have noticed I put depending on where is is likely to use the phone or words to that effect, I too have unlimited data, so it's of no issue, but the wifi app is more convenient if the users can use that, gettting the settings is as easy as sending a text message, so he doesn't need to go into a shop for that.
The OP did mention he had changed from one device to another, and as I have also put, he may need to include the settings to the new device.0 -

That would apply to you deciding he doesn't need to get help from EE.gettting the settings is as easy as sending a text message, so he doesn't need to go into a shop for that.
Really?
I have yet to see text message settings configuration for iPhone, could you explain how it works? The OP did mention he had changed from one device to another, and as I have also put, he may need to include the settings to the new device.
A change of handset means its more likely to need manual setting of APN, something the store staff could do in 2 minutes, especially as the OP has admitted to no knowledge or experience in doing so.
Perhaps you should think a little more before posting?====0 -

Gosh something else the iphone doesn't do that many other devices allow.
A quick search on the net offers plenty of solutions, I'm sure one of his friends is competent enough to set up the device for him, and I'm sure if you or I was nearby to him, would offer to do so for the OP. Woops correct that then I would gladly offer to input the settings for him if he were nearby, perhaps you may too?
I'm not sure why you want to turn the thread into a bit of a willy waving contest, there is more than one resolve to his 'problem' and IMO your way is not the only way or should I say any view that differs from your's is not necessarily incorrect or that whoever disagreed with your view even if they posted before you should be banished from posting on what is after all a public forum where usual disclaimers apply.0 -
Try Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings.
You'll need to re-login to your WiFi networks after using this. What will your verse be?

Hi Guys thanks for all the brainstorming. I do have mobile data turned on in my settings but still no luck!:0(. Looks like I may have to go back in to the shop if I can't sort, what a pain! :0(xx0

Mattye- Thanks. Is that what you suggest. It scared me at the end so didn't complete the process but if you think it will sort it?0

As has been mentioned during the thread several times by many people, you may have to check, or set the correct access point name details, if you are not confident in doing so then yes take the trip to the nearest store or somebody that can do so.0 -

It won't make it any worse. You'll still be able to make calls, and may or may not be able to use data. The only 'problem' is that you'll need to re-login to WiFi networks.
Some people have reported that you have to re-pair bluetooth devices as well.
It won't do any damage, but it that way
What will your verse be?

No willy waving at all, it's just a fact that giving advice from a position of ignorance of how the specific handset can be set up will always be open to problems.
The OP has just signed a new contract and is paying EE for the privlege, getting one of their staff members to rectify the problem is the most logical advice.
Especially as there could even be problems on the network side contributing to the problem.====0
