Yep mythical as in work of fiction.
I think it was got as a pet for one of the residents small children and they didnt appreciate the work involved. If it was being minded and was going on Fri it would have gone by Sat at the latest instead noones been out to it.

Bunny wouldn't appreciate the difference but owner would its why you keep them seperate.

Its amazing that you've decided exactly what's going on with so little information and no contact at all with the people who put the rabbit there and have been feeding it.

I have a horrible feeling about this, I wonder if you'll update us with what happens when someone comes home from their bank holiday day out to find the rabbit vanished. Will you at least have the courage of your convictions and leave your name and address so they can get in touch with you about it?

I contacted the housing association and asked them to find out who it belongs to and get it moved.
It was supposed to be moved yesterday as it was just here whilst someone was on holiday.
It's still in the bin store.
It's not been out of the hutch noone is spending time with it what do I do?

So you've gone from believing the rabbit's owner was on holiday but now they're 'mythical'?

I know its almost like theyre friends of those friends I have mentioned throughout the thread;)

And people have 'lost patience' from the start. I love when I bite back its attitude yet its fine to slag someone off for ensuring an animals welfare

Sorry, I didn't want to "bash" the OP, but its no wonder that the other posters thought you were interfering, because you kept drip-feeding them the relevant information! It was good of you to move the hutch to an area which was less fly ridden, but otherwise, you have had very little information to go on and have taken it upon yourself to feed (on top of the food already provided by the ower's relative) and then rehome an animal that the RSPCA didn't feel needed help - or did you not tell them the whole story to begin with either?

The people on here have tried to help, but if they didn't provide the answers you were looking for (due to lack of relevant information) then you sniped at them. In order to get good advice you need to provide all of the facts first.

Thank you everyone that mentioned fly strike. There were what looked like grains of rice in the bedding managed to get her to an emergency vet they recovered 9 maggots from her bottom.

Shes gone to the rescue centre with antibiotics, painkillers and some vitamin drops I am a lot poorer but the vet said sbe would have been dead within 24 hours

All of my contact details have been on the three notes left on the hutch as well as the note put through the doors I have been trying to contact them they have not responded. So my conscience is clear.

I appreciate what you're saying however some posters didn't want to help they wanted to bash me for not bringing it in or for making sure she had water and food.

Perhaps people's images of 'bin store' differ to reflect their experiences. What one person may see to be a squalid, filthy, germ ridden area could be a clean, tidy and a not particularly unpleasant area in another's eyes. As I said, if you posted a photo we could advise accordingly.

As you now mention you've left notes, have these notes been removed and read by somebody or are they still there?

My bin store area is pretty much under my control as its not shared and I keep any food waste in the freezer till the night before bin day. I still would not keep a rabbit near it for risk of fly strike. Ok we live on a dairy farm, but this summer has been particularly bad for flies in some areas, strike is up locally in sheep, don't know about rabbits. I'm certainly unable to leave cat food out ATM because flies are descending to lay eggs almost immediately.

    Yuck.

Would you be prepared to leave an animal prone to fly strike in a shared bin store area in summer?

There will always be someone who does not agree with what you have done/ posted about (the joys of life). I have a pet who is very ill with certain foods so I would be wary of feeding another animal without knowing the animal and owner but I understand your reasons for not taking the rabbit in. I do feel though that some posters would have had a very different response had they known all of the issues from the beginning.

I am very glad that the rabbit is receiving proper care. Will you be following this up with the owner?
  • I'm gobsmacked a the response OP has got on this thread.

This is a rabbit left in a smelly, stuffy, fly ridden, dark, hot bin shed, not a nice shady, clean, airy part of a shared garden. People really think that's OK?

And I really don't get those saying 'oh, it's alright, the rabbit probably has a lovely cage and space at home, it's only temporary'. In that case why isn't the 'carer' visiting it at home while it's owner is away to feed it, clean it and interact with it, that's what most caring pet owners would arrange, not leaving it in a freaking bin shed, shared or not, for over a week.

    Shocking.

I totally agree with you, whatever the OP was doing, someone wasn't happy with it. This was one of the last few boards on MSE were people were genuinely helpful, but I guess things change.
