Why pay the TV Tax?

You are not supposed to watch or record live tv as it is broadcast without a licence on your tv, pc or anywhere else.
But having equipment which would enable you to do so - while it might give grounds for suspicion - is not of itself an offence!
When my ancient TV goes to TV heaven, I might well try going cold turkey and doing without. I will cancel the licence at that point - but I certainly won't be paying someone to go up on the roof to remove the Sky dish.
As for watching TV on your PC, there have been recent media reports of ISPs saying they will not hand over viewing data - and there is no proof whatsoever of TV Licencing claims that they have other ways of finding out.

People simply shoot themselves in the foot by talking to the agency hirelings or signing bits of paper. Plus there have been claims that information given by the householder has been doctored or 'misinterpreted'. Me, I couldn't possibly say
. But why put yourself in that position anyway? You are not obliged to even talk to these people. 0 -
These threads get tiresome after a while.
If you don't want to pay a licence fee then don't watch TV as broadcast.
Simple really.0 -
I agree. Unfortunately people keep posting on this like they just discovered the holy grail (but they still manage to get it wrongThese threads get tiresome after a while.

This matter has already been discussed ad nauseam on these boards.

I was under (the probably mistaken) impression it was 2 hours after the broadcast.

"If you are using the live rewind function to either restart the current live programme or to rewind any live stream for up to 2 hours, a television license is required as you are still accessing the live simulcasts."
That, BTW, is the BBC take on the matter. BBC don't make the law so it may be correct/incorrect.
The watching of foreign channels live (for example streaming NCAA sports that are not broadcast in the UK) is a more interesting discusion.0 -
This is getting boring. And repetitive.
I agree it is repetitive when Beeboids keep jumping in because they're outraged at the thought of people not contributing towards their biased broadcaster.Unplugging the aerial is no good whatsoever in a defence. Do you think the prosecutors are stupid? If you have a analogue TV or FlatScreen you have no problems at all. If Freeview - then you have the tools and are 'equipped' to break the law.
OMG, if you don't have the aerial connected you don't get live feeds so I hope the Magistrates have more common sense than you. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
I just have a Youview box with lan connected and no aerial. This means I can watch all the catchup legally, (censored) the BBCThis is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0

I hope you don't think that you can only get live feeds through an aerial?0 -

So you think the law should be changed so the Magistrates and Judges can presume you are watching live feeds on the net. It never ceases to amaze me what the Beeboids will say and do to defend the BBC.
Now why would someone who claims topics like this are "tiresome" keep coming back.............hmmThis is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
No idea what a Beeboid is.
No law change required, why would you think there would be one required
If you watch TV as broadcast you need a licence. Nothing to do with aerials.
If you don't then no licence is required.
As I said before simple yet people like yourself seem to be able to muddy the waters0 -
As for watching 'within minutes' of the original broadcast - afraid that is also a slam dunk violation. You need to be at least 15 minutes or more away from the original terrestrial transmission.
I was under the impression it had to be ~2 hours from the time of broadcast, in addition it has to be downloaded from a remote server, ie not recorded on a PVR or whatever.0
