Why pay the TV Tax?

Now how do you watch TV, legally for free.

Disconnect the aerial.
This is important. You must not watch any live or near live broadcast TV, on your Television or PC.
Do not worry if you are a Eastenders fan. It will be on the iPlayer within minutes of the end of the broadcast!

Connect your laptop to the TV (or PC)
Use a HDMI or VGA connection. If you have wireless, bang straight into your router, or use Ethernet, or home plugs. Soon you will be enjoying all the TV you used to pay the TAX for, for free. And it is legal.

Lots of smart TVs and players are available to allow you to watch the BBC and Channel 5 services in the UK.

So what are you waiting for, ditch the licence and welcome to the free tv world.

So, we are 5 Months Tax Free
Got another letter from the goons this morning. Addressed to the occupier! Officers have been dispatched to my post code. Hundreds of them!

You do not have to inform TV licencing of your position. And remember they have rights other than of another subject in this country.

This is getting boring. And repetitive.

Unplugging the aerial is no good whatsoever in a defence. Do you think the prosecutors are stupid? If you have a analogue TV or FlatScreen you have no problems at all. If Freeview - then you have the tools and are 'equipped' to break the law.

As for watching 'within minutes' of the original broadcast - afraid that is also a slam dunk violation. You need to be at least 15 minutes or more away from the original terrestrial transmission.
  • Do I think the TV Tax collector is stupid? No. Most just get a knock at he door, then a summons. Just like a speeding ticket, they plead guilty without thinking.

Where does it say fifteen minutes? Most BBC programmes are available minutes after broadcast.

If it is Freeview, you have all the tools? What tools? The same as my iPad I assume?

I only watch pre-recorded programmes (e.g. on Blu-ray/DVD/Video)This includes a TV set, computer, mobile phone, games console, digital box or DVD/VHS recorder.
I only watch catch-up services via a computer (e.g. iPlayer)You do not watch or record television programmes, on any device, as they're being shown on TV (i.e. live).

    I am covered by a valid TV Licence at another addressYou do not need a TV Licence at this address because;
    1. you are covered by a valid TV Licence at another address and
    2. you are only using a device (e.g. laptop, phone) powered solely by its own internal batteries and neither plugged into the mains or to an external aerial.
I do not have any TV receiving equipmentYou don't watch or record television programmes because you cannot receive a TV signal on any device, or any device capable of receiving a TV signal is never used for this purpose.
I cannot receive a TV signal following Digital Switchover in my areaYou only use your TV set for games/consoles and do not watch television programmes as they're being shown on TV (i.e. live).

Even if the 15 minutes you state had any basis in fact or law (it doesn't), selectively quoting the OP very quickly lost your post credibility, I'm afraid.

The OP stated, "It will be on the iPlayer within minutes of the end of the broadcast!" and you (quite deliberately I suspect) conveniently forgot to include the words 'of the end of' in the extract you quoted.

No use of the iPlayer or similar technology requires a licence provided that live TV is not watched (revert to rule 1, in a way).
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

And what do you want. I watch BBC on the BD box, no live function on that.

So you keep paying, and after the show, I will, some programmes, keep playing.

Of for goodness sake... I'd rather just turn the TV on and enjoy live TV.

    Happy to pay the 'tax'.

Very little in life is truly free.

    Just wondering...what do you watch?

It's so easy bringing stuff up on iPlayer/4OD/etc and the computer is plugged into the larger screen so it's just like watching TV...but at a time I want and without ad's.

So watching TV programs for me is truly free....just a litle delayed but nothing is that important that I must watch it straight away...I can wait an hour.
    :footie:
:p Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S) :p Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money. :p

Anything I fancy... that's the beauty for me... no restrictions.

I also choose to have Sky and record channels that have adverts so I can fast forward.

I'm happy with my choice in how I spend my money and don't usually feel the need to share... but the 'tv tax' threads seem to be getting smugger in tone and more preachy... so I thought I'd add a bit from the other side.
