That they get awarded "performance" bonuses is testament to how successful they are at it.

Maybe you should get your facts right before you say that. There is no such thing at the momment as a performance bonus, heck unlike 99.9999999% of the country we havent even had a payrise.

If you look at the pay for the whole civil service the CSA staff get the worst pay and its for the hardest unrewarding job. Its not fair to have a go at really hard working staff have a go at the head honchos. The CSA staff know there are a lot of problems.

Don't many CSA staff use the CSA as a stepping stone on to the civil servants ladder?

If you are not happy working for the CSA get another job. You sound extremely bitter.

There are harding working CSA staff, but then other CSA staff are not! I'm speaking from experience.

Plus the fact if the wages are so low, you would be entitled to claim WTC/CTC.

I'm not bitter just think that the general public dont understand what goes on and are blatenly ignorant.

Its not that easy to get another job in the Civil Service as there is a block at the momment for CSA staff applying for jobs.

Err the press never get things right when they talk about the CSA

    I'd best ring payroll!!

After 6 years as an Admin Officer - I've earned the grand total of £14653 in 2006/2007 - that includes overtime!

Not if you have no children and not if you have a partner also on a low wage as added together the total is above the limit (which is very low). There is a system in place which is being fought constantly by the Unions where there is an appraisal system which is a complete farce. It allows quotas for achievement - so regardless of your achievements, when compared to another, you cannot get the highest grade and it is not set per office. So, if I worked my backside off technically I should be able to get an A grade, but if the proportion of A grades has been met across the rest of the CSA, then I can't get one - I could actually get a D which means no payrise and no recognition of my achievements. It may have changed recently, but I have no intentions of returning to a place where this practice continues.

Yeah its kind of still in force. But the pay hasnt been agreed on and might not be a long while. There are "bonuses" if you do something spectacular like I've done in the past. I got £11k agreement and the nrp paid up but they are few and far between.

I put the word performance in a single inverted comma, to indicate irony. I got the stuff about the performance bonus from a letter written by Stephen Geraghty (you must have heard of him, he's your boss) and provided as a written reply to a parliamentary question in the House of Commons on 23 May 2007 by James Plaskitt, Parliamentary Under Secretary at the Department for Work and Pensions. Now, since you're clearly calling me a liar, you are also accusing your boss of the same thing and accusing a Government Minister of lying to Parliament as well. How to win friends and influence people!! I do hope that's not how you treat your 'clients'.

N71 - I got the info about salaries from Hansard, given by Plaskitt again. Note that the numbers I quoted are given as averages, he quoted the minima and maxima as well but I thought I was in danger of writing an essay so I left those bits out. I actually posted them because I was genuinely shocked at how low they were, and thought that maybe some others would be too.

Coming from an employment sector renowned for low pay and poor working conditions I totally second Mr Green Genes. Current government pay is an insult to those who have any genuine interest in/motivation regarding the field that they work in.
