If it as a yearly thing paid monthly and since it's over £500 then even if they didn't do a credit search you have a duty to notify them you are bankrupt as the credit is over £500.
Just to be clear, that rule only applies to undischarged BR, So may not apply in the OP's case if he is discharged.0 -
Of course it's not a matter of enforcement it is a consequence. But for debts of only hundreds of pounds, it is likely to not be cost effective to have an expensive debt collection department. So all the firm has to them is gaining a default/CCJ and then selling the debt for a pittance.
As this is not a serious consequence for a bankrupt (their credit rating is hardly going to look worse), firms are not going to take the risk of lending to them.
Most BRs want to improve their quality of life going forward post-BR. This includes things like a mortgage. A history showing BR followed by more post-BR defaults will most certainly have an adverse affect on the BR. Most CC companies offer discharged BRs credit, often within a year or two.
It may be considered 'lending' - but it certainly doesn't have to seem to loosing actual money. They can stop issuing passes or suspend passes so all they are loosing is revenue - which they won't have now anyway if they have refused the custom.0 -
Why do you continue to confuse the issue. The £49.50 DD option is a 12 month contract which is why the OP has been rejected on a credit check.
From the website "The scheme has a minimum contract term when joining of 12 months from your initial start date"
The OP would not be able to cancel after 3 months if they wanted, if they did and refused to pay the reminding 9 months, the only threat to not pay the remaining contract is to report them to credit agencies and damage their credit worthiness. However NX don't really have this an option for a bankrupt so refuse to offer this.
Not sure why this is so difficult as it has been mentioned several times and even the OP now acknowledges the option he chose is for 12 months.
My apologies: no wish to cause confusion. Wasn't aware that NX required a 12 month contract so thanks for checking. However others on this thread seem to be under the impression that this travelcard is a 12 month one i.e. 12 month duration paid for in instalments, it's not (from the web site):
"Payable monthly direct out of your account, your ticket will be posted to your chosen address each month before your current ticket expires."
So you're paying for a one month pass, a month at a time and no financial risk to NX. So I wonder why a minimum 12 month sign-up is required?0 -

I recently applied for a National Express West Midlands Travel Card. As a day saver is £3.90 (£90 a month) and a bus pass is £49.50 a month.
Due to my bankruptcy I had a letter declining my bus pass because of credit score!!!! That is just ludacris!!!!
I believe gas, electric and water are the same, quarterly bills. So you would loose your direct debit discount!!! Basically you get screwed left right and centre for being bankrupt. When all you want to do is get back on track and start being responsible with money again!!!!!

On that last point I have no idea. Totally agree, some people have no choice in becoming BR, they are forced into a corner by others who do not pay bills, we experienced a large unpaid invoice which put our company through could not control the pack off cards crumbling in front of our eyes, so please unless you fully understand do not judge

think there should be a Bankrupt rating card which would be a bit like this:
1, was it your fault? No 2 points back
2, was it your fault? Yes 2 points gone
3, did you intend to rod your creditors? no 5 points back
