Bus Pass Decline for Bankrupts

That's really not the case I'm afraid (though it seems some would like it to be).

I went BR in 2010 and continue (without interruption) to pay by monthly installment for gas, electric, TV license, car insurance, breakdown cover, council tax, water rates, phone, broadband and mobile phone. I've also changed providers on more than one occasion without problem.

Seems absurd to me that pre payment is being refused on the grounds of BR.

That's very re-assuring to hear ESP for peeps like us that are in month 2 of BR and still frightened of the unknown. I have read some scary posts on here but, thankfully, most are like yours

So they did a credit check on you when you weren't asking for credit?

    Strange.

No no no it's a monthly pass. The first payment is paid and they send out the pass. So you prepay a month
It's credit. You are buying an annual pass that you pay for monthly. The scheme has a minimum term of 12 months. You can leave at any time but if you rejoin within a year it costs an extra £15. Read the t's and c's.

The monthly direct debit cost is £49.50 per month. The annual cost is £594 if you want to pay that that doesn't require a credit check.
The 4 weekly cash cost is £55.50
    :footie:
:p Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S) :p Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money. :p

If it as a yearly thing paid monthly and since it's over £500 then even if they didn't do a credit search you have a duty to notify them you are bankrupt as the credit is over £500.

But that's not discrimination on the grounds of bankruptcy. It's passing on the considerable extra cost of not processing the 12 payments by DD. It applies to anyone not using DD, not just bankrupts.
Since you are obtaining a minimum term of 12m with only a month's payment upfront. it's clearly credit. If you were to default after the first payment, they would be left with a debt of around £550-hardly insubstantial.

    I can't actually believe this!!!

I recently applied for a National Express West Midlands Travel Card. As a day saver is £3.90 (£90 a month) and a bus pass is £49.50 a month.

Due to my bankruptcy I had a letter declining my bus pass because of credit score!!!! That is just ludacris!!!!

I believe gas, electric and water are the same, quarterly bills. So you would loose your direct debit discount!!! Basically you get screwed left right and centre for being bankrupt. When all you want to do is get back on track and start being responsible with money again!!!!!

I think this issue may be when the passs is renewed it's sent out prior to the direct debit being collected so their would a risk you get the bus pass then cancel the direct debit.

    * Disclaimer I'm from Birmingham and this used to be the case when I used to pay for my bus pass by direct debit. However the policy may have changed now.

This is also taken from their T&Cs:
    1. We use the services of a Credit Reference Agency to confirm the name, address and credit status of the person paying the direct debit.

I think all companies will have their own polices.

Just the same as some banks will allow bankcrupts others wont.
