Bus Pass Decline for Bankrupts

I can't actually believe this!!!

I recently applied for a National Express West Midlands Travel Card. As a day saver is £3.90 (£90 a month) and a bus pass is £49.50 a month.

Due to my bankruptcy I had a letter declining my bus pass because of credit score!!!! That is just ludacris!!!!

I believe gas, electric and water are the same, quarterly bills. So you would loose your direct debit discount!!! Basically you get screwed left right and centre for being bankrupt. When all you want to do is get back on track and start being responsible with money again!!!!!

So you didn't realise that going bankrupt would affect your ability to get credit? Whatever your future intentions, your bankruptcy makes you a very bad credit risk.
Can you not buy a monthly pass using cash/cheque/debit card-why do you need credit for it? Travel passes are normally bought annually/quarterly/monthly as required, not on credit.

I know this sounds harsh, but there have to be serious consequences to becoming bankrupt. Otherwise no one would pay their debts back.

Unfortunately this means it is extremely difficult to get credit (may get easier as time passes and defaults are no longer on your credit history).

Therefore if you're not buying the pass in advance, but want credit they are not going to do this. They are not refusing to sell you a pass because you are bankrupt, they are refusing to give you credit to buy the pass.

A four weekly one is £55.50 per the TWM website, you may be able to buy one at ticket outlets for cash.

Find out who you are and do that on purpose (thanks to Owain Wyn Jones quoting Dolly Parton)

So they did a credit check on you when you weren't asking for credit?

    Strange.

Is this simply a scheme whereby you purchase an annual ticket and pay it back in 12 monthly instalments? If so, you are obtaining credit-what did you think it was? Any goods or service where you require credit are now doubtful-surely you realised this when you agreed to go bankrupt?

No no no it's a monthly pass. The first payment is paid and they send out the pass. So you prepay a month

That's really not the case I'm afraid (though it seems some would like it to be).

I went BR in 2010 and continue (without interruption) to pay by monthly installment for gas, electric, TV license, car insurance, breakdown cover, council tax, water rates, phone, broadband and mobile phone. I've also changed providers on more than one occasion without problem.

Seems absurd to me that pre payment is being refused on the grounds of BR.
