Yes as you are technically still getting the credit regardless of how you choose to pay for it
  • This is another example of everything that's wrong with privatised public transport. I don't think that National Express should be allowed to deny passengers a season ticket even if they have previously been declared bankrupt: National Express should find a solution. I would take this up with Passenger Focus, the independent passenger watchdog for bus and rail passengers.

Omg am I going to get into trouble now? I'm gonna call th or first thing Monday. If I knew it was that I wouldn't have due to restrictions.

Not necessarily. If it's in his name then you are not party to the contract so your personal circumstances are irrelevant to them. Downside being he is bound by the contract and if you fail to pay him, he's still liable.

Are you allowed to travel on somebody elses pass though?

It doesn't matter whose account the DD is coming out of. If the application was in your name, then the credit application is in your name, as is the debt if you default on it. Not your partner's.

    ????
They're not bring denied a season ticket, I'm sure if they paid the full 12 month amount they would be given one. They are just being denied credit to pay for one, which is a consequence of becoming bankrupt!
  • Isn't the point that the bus user shouldn't need credit or a credit check to buy a season ticket? That's just NX's system.

I don't understand why there is so much confusion in this thread.

Let's say you can buy an annual ticket up front for £600. That would be £50 a month. If you want to pay monthly, maybe they would charge £52. But if you only wanted a ticket for one month, maybe they would charge £60.

If you don't pay in any month, then your ticket gets cancelled. So the bus company doesn't really lose any money.

However, they still want to have some sort of reassurance that they will receive the entire £624, hence a credit check. A mobile phone company will also credit check people applying for contracts - the monthly payment may be lower than for a bus ticket, but they are also giving you the phone

I presume that you are allowed to buy tickets for someone else, like you can buy phone contracts for someone else though it's not exactly the same.
  • Checking the prices on the NXWM web site, it's a monthly direct debit pass the OP is trying to buy not an annual one. If the bus user wants to cancel from one month to the next they can.
