Nothing plugged in, had earphones in earlier but not when it crashed. I think I have it set not to sleep, when I shut the lid nothing happens and I just switch it off . I'd like to take the bloody thing to the vet and it put to sleep!

So you don't go to start-->shutdown (i.e. the flying window on the taskbar and then use shutdown) I would imagine that the problem is down to sleep i.e. when you close the lid , or press the power button. I can't access my W7 laptop at the moment to find the exact bits to look at. I know it's in control panel, power options,. (or perhaps click on the start button and search for sleep, that should find something like "when the computer sleeps/power button) I will look at it perhaps tomorrow. It does sounds like there is either a USB/something on the motherboard driver problem. But for now perhaps shut the bbbbloody thing down correctly

I always go to start/shut down yes. If I took this into a shop would it be a big job? Is driving me mad.
    Well madder.
