    Reg the kidney beans.

What dry weight do people use to get the equivalent of a tin of kidney beans?

The drained weight according to the tin is 290g.

    Thanks.

    Hi all,

Has anyone got the Ikea Dillkott stainless steel pressure cooker? I bought one a few days ago but find the lid doesn't lock in place, can be moved and twirled round if that makes sense and wondered if this was normal for this particular model.

    Its this one....dillkott-pressure-cooker__0114950_PE267988_S4.JPG

I have never had one so am looking for some advice on which is the best to purchase and any hints or tips for using. I plan to use it to make soup and cook beans for chilli etc. Any advice or recipes would be most welcome. Thanks:)

i have recently done the same. The decent ones looked quite expensive, and I didn't want to pay a lot, as after reading the reviews some people really don't get along with them. I wanted to use for the same, soup, beans, dhal etc... and opted for the prestige smartplus aluminium from Tesco direct, free delivery, an offer on quidco so came out at £28ish for a 5 litre capacity. Had a good tester session over the weekend - lentil soup 12 minutes start to finish, carrot and swede (took a bit longer than expected - but could have been user/operator error!), a couple of other things, so far so good. I like the large capacity as it means you can cook a few items a once - very MSE HTH

I've got the Prestige 4litre Hi-Dome - it was actually a mistake because it was the 6litre one that I really wanted - but it's fine for what I need.

The 6litre Hi-Dome would have been better if I'd been going to do jam-making as there is more room due to the extra space in the lid.

I've also got a Megafesa one (Spanish company) that my son found had been left behind in his house when he moved in. It's got a missing handle, but works perfectly. Pity he hadn't found it before I bought the other one - could have saved myself around £25!
  • I have had pressure cookers for years and was always frightened they'd explode because the hissing was so fierce, so I didn't often use. Then I bought a Kuhn Rikon from Lakeland and I LOVE it. It is expensive but I'm not at all scared of it and use it a LOT. Also you seem to be able to use much less water in it than in my earlier Prestige and Tefal ones, so casseroles etc are much tastier because less water. I'm a bit obsessed by it because it's SOOOO good ! (Swiss made, very sturdy and reliable, and they are lovely people if you ring them up with a query. Just for once this is a product which lives up to what they say about it....)I'd better stop, I could go on and on................
The point is that the KR one isn't supposed to HISS, and it doesn't :)

Strange how the sound of a pressure cooker 'hissing' means different things to different people.

I've heard lots of folks say how much the sound makes them 'a bit nervous' .......................... for me, it was one of the comforting 'sounds of childhood' when my grandmother was cooking 'Hotpot/Scouse' on a Saturday evening
