Ive just found this recipe. I don't know why I wrote it down because I haven't got a pressure cooker!

    Beef Casserole

    1½ tbs plain flour
    ½ tbs paprika
    ½ tsp salt
10 turns of black pepper mill
1 lb stewing steak cut into 2 inch chunks
    3 tbs sunflower oil
    1 lg chopped onion
6 oz button mushrooms, cleaned & cut in half
    8 fl oz red wine
    ½ pint beef stock
    1 tsp tomato puree

Stir the flour with the paprika, cayenne pepper, salt and pepper. Add the beef, tossing until coated. Heat a large pressure cooker to hot and add the oil, then add the beef and fry for 3-4 minutes until nicely coated. Add onion and fry for another 2 minutes on medium heat, stirring from time to time to stop it sticking and then add the mushrooms.

Pour in the red wine, scraping the bottom of the pan to remove any sediment (this is called de-glazing) and simmer until reduced by half. Pour in the stock and add the tomato puree. Bring to the boil and then put the lid on. When it comes to full pressure reduce heat and cook for 50 minutes.

Dear all, before anyone tries this recipe, could I just query something, I think it seems a VERY long time to be steaming at pressure (50 mins) as in BEACHBETHS recipe. It may be so but it seems an awful long time for only 1/2 a pint of liquid. Please be careful.

Yeah , I wouldn't leave meat in there for longer than twenty minutes without going through the cool down regime and having a look.

I've never used a pressure cooker so I wouldn't know about this. I don't even know where I got the recipe from. Thanks for pointing this out to people. I wouldn't want any accidents because of my post!!! :-[

If anyone is looking for a cheap pressure cooker Netto are offering some for about £18.
I picked one up and then dithered wondering if it would be difficult to use.
    Any advice would be welcome.

    I do I do. I love it.

We had 20 minute stew this week, and it was fantastic, husb even took some to work in his flask.

Spuds and veggies done in minutes, think of the electricity I'm saving.

But as it's 2nd hand, I don't have any recipes.

    Suggestions would be gratefully received.

  • Pressure cooker website with loads of recipes and helpful hints.

We're a three pressure cooker household, one for chicken scraps, one for us and a little one for the caravan. Can't see why anyone wants a slow-cooker when you can save so much more money with a pressure cooker.

My Mum used the pressure cooker several times a week - she used to make heavenly stews, often using lentils or "split peas" to thicken them. I tried using mine for stews when my kids were young but they were unimpressed - "Sorry Mum, it's all right but we prefer Campbell's!" - so I didn't bother again! Would like to have another go now though, with the cold weather arriving. Have to :D buy some lentils next time I go shopping!

Bother, Smiley ended up in wrong place and I don't know how to move it - it was meant to be at the end!

Never mind, we should all take a (ivy)leaf out of your book, and smile for no apparent reason, it'd make th eworld a nicer place.

    By the way Thanks Ted.
