I'd never be without my pressure cooker & have had one for all of my adult life. It's one kitchen item I would be loathe to live without.
I've often used it as an aid to speed up the cooking time of roasted meats by wrapping the meat in foil & letting it steam in the pressure cooker for about 8-10 mins or so before transferring it to the oven. Not only does it cut down on oven time, but the meat is lovely & succulent & of course very tender having had it's stint in the pressure cooker.
When I cook vegetables other than potatoes, I wrap them in foil as I find this helps stop them being overcooked.
Stews & puddings are so quick & easy in the pressure cooker too & with only one pot to wash afterwards, lovely. The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.
I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.0 -
I've got a very good book called "Pressure Cooking Day By Day" by Kathleen Broughton which I must admit i don't use nearly as much as i should!
I don't know if it would still be in print as pressure cooking seems to have gone a bit out if fashion at the moment (I bet it comes back in when people realise how much their fuel bills are going up!), but you may well find it on Amazon or E-bay.0 -
Chipps wrote:If you want it now - pressure cooker!
If you want to put it on in the morning, go out & come back to a lovely welcoming cooked meal - slow cooker!
Not sure I'd want to be without either of them!
I totally agree with Chipps, it's not either/or, you can usefully have both!Official DFW Nerd No 096 - Proud to have dealt with my debt!0 -
Having just bought a pressure cooker from Aldi, I wondered if there were any good recipe books/websites that people use?
Thanks0 -

O'h I looked at the Aldi one would you recommend it? have you used it yet?
Can anyone recommend me a pressure cooker as I am about to buy one. I think some have baskets to seperate veg etc?
thanks0 -
I used it on Saturday to make leek and potato soup - delicious!! The instruction manual leaves a bit to be desired, but I've got a 1965 copy of a Marguerite Patten cookery book, and she gives loads of advice on pressure cooking.
The cooker itself is really solid and the pan is dishwasher-safe. It cleaned up beautifully in mine.

Hi, does anyone have a European style gas oven? That is one which is hotter at the bottom than the top? I believe Prestige make them but I can't find a web page for the free standing cookers anywhere, just the presusre cookers and saucepans etc.
I swear by my traditional British style gas cooker where I can cook at three different temperatures in the same oven at once, and I'm wondering whether these Euro style ones are the same, but just upside down, or whether they work completely differently.
Would greatly appreciate advice/info from someone who owns one. They look very nice but I don't want to spend hundreds of pounds and then not enjoy cooking on it.
My current cooker is a Cannon and its fantastic, but a little old now and beginning to slowly fall to bits!
Hope to hear from you!

I have a pressure cooker, bought for me by my sister a few years ago. I have no idea what to do with it (not what to put in it, what to actually do with the lid and the little pressure thingy). I use it as a large pot at the moment - a real waste I'm sure. I did not get a manual or any paperwork with it, so I am really clueless! Any help?Save the earth, it's the only planet with chocolate!0

Sorry and I mean no offence, but I couldn't help laughing reading when you FZwanab wrote:I cut up a whole chicken with a carrot,
