  • I have to say that Job Centre staff, my doctor, and any other professional who knows that I am on benefits have never treated me any differently than before. I had to start claiming benefits after my (now ex) husband decided to start a new family elsewhere. My son has severe disabilities and needs care both day and night. I know it is a different situation than being unemployed, so maybe that's why I haven't had poor treatment from professionals.

If I was treated with contempt, I think I would consider complaining. When my son was treated badly at school (nursery nurse assigned to him did not change his nappy all day, two days running, and head teacher accused me of lying even though I could prove I she hadn't changed him), I smiled at the headteacher and asked for a copy of the complaints procedure. I then wrote into her and she had to take my concerns seriously.

Maybe JC staff (who I see for work focused interviews), if they are impolite or treat you badly, would react differently if you ask for the complaints procedure. Or is it that some people are so ashamed of claiming benefits that they feel that others are looking down on them, even when they are not?

How dare the doctor do his job thoroughly, how dare he want to make sure that he is not signing a sick-note for someone who is capable of working. I think that you should just be able to phone up for a sick note for how ever long you want it and it just be sent in the post.

Bet you are one of those who moans if he cant get to see his doctor when he wants as well.

thats a very silly statement, i`ll leave it at that, wum
