I'm sorry to hear about your mum. I find personally I dream about things that have been playing on my mind and upsetting me or stressing me out. Currently, I have dreams about work and something going wrong and so I wake up in a cold sweat!

I've also had dreams about past friends, ex boyfriends and when I've woken up from my dream, it's felt for a moment they're still a massive part of my life even if I haven't spoken to them in years.

I've never had dreams about people in my family who have passed unfortunately. I'd like to have one about my Grandma as I miss her dearly and it would be nice to see her again, even if it is distorted in my dreams.

I think it's perfectly normal to be dreaming about your Mum. With time the dreams will slowly subside. If they become night terrors, or are beginning to upset you, try writing down things about your mum just before bed to clear them from your mind. Have a hot, caffeine free drink and try to turn off all electronics an hour before bed to help you relax.

My Dad died 25 years ago & still I occasionally dream of him. I usually ask the same question - but you're dead ..... They're always really lovely dreams too. It is said that our loved one's come to us in our dreams, not sure how true it is, but it's a nice thought.
  • I'm so sorry for your loss OP.

After I lost my Dad I kept dreaming that I'd found him unconscious and despite my efforts to resuscitate him, I couldn't save him.

The dreams did subside after a few months but it was upsetting at the time.

Hi, my Dad died last year and I go through phases of dreaming about him still being alive, similar to yours. Guess it's natures way of processing information and it does bring me comfort sometimes.

I have no experience of these kind of dreams. Just wanted to say I am sorry for your loss OP.
The best day of your life is the one on which you decide your life is your own, no apologies or excuses. No one to lean on, rely on or blame. The gift is yours - it is an amazing journey - and you alone are responsible for the quality of it. This is the day your life really begins.

When my dear friend died I had dreams about her a lot for months. They were always wonderful, comforting dreams where she reassured me that she was ok now and we got a chance to say a proper goodbye. Even now 6 years later I still occasionally dream that she's alive, or that there's a way for me to talk to her. I think its our brains telling us what we want to hear more than anything in the world.

I'm so sorry for your loss, are you getting any bereavement counselling?

Sorry to hear of the loss of your mother.

Grieving is often a time of intense dreams about the lossed one, it is a way of processing the experience. Not that everyone goes through grief in the same way of course. When my father died I had an intense dream of him walking into his house where I was staying with my mother. He was confused by how happy we all were to see him and said he had just been away for a couple of weeks. We were puzzled (in the dream) about who had been cremated as obviously here was my father - alive. Waking from that one was sad, recalling it is pretty bad too.

my saddest one was when she said im still alive they made a mistake, and i am going to get compensation, we then skipped off hand in hand down the road together in joy.

Ive had dreams like this about my friend who died of cancer, in the dreams I'll say "but we need to hurry up and do whatever, because you're going to die soon" - its really strange and not a very nice feeling when I wake up.

I used to dream there had been a mix up at the hospital and my Dad wasn't dead. I also used to try and convince myself this when I was really upset about him being dead (I was only 12 when he died). I still dream about him very occasionally now although I don't really remember his voice anymore or what he smelt like and that normally makes me cry in my sleep.

I think it's perfectly normal. Your subconcious takes you to places in your sleep that you supress when conscious.

I also always dream myself thin which is a bit of a cruel torture as I'm not anymore!!
