How do you know so much, Valli? You're really good on legal stuff, flying stuff, and now science stuff. *tips hat with respect*

First of all I am very old :p (I'll get that in before *anyone* else does, naming no names :rotfl:)
    (I'm not, really)

Law a level and a lifelong interest/fascination in the law.
Flying stuff - I am an avid reader of books/magazines and retain the odd 'tip' in the old noggin.
Science - was my paid work.

Pigpen - that made me feel so sad for your 'babies'.

Bossy - don't do it. (Which I see you're not going to).

WM and DW have both run on cheap rate leccy; I have also washed the stuff I couldn't squeeze into the the DW. DD was channelling Squeak and Dot; we too had 'eatballs' for tea. On linguine with a dressing of bolognaise sauce.
Followed by After 8 dessert. OK if you like gooey chocolate puddings and mousses. I don't!

  • Just popping in to say 'Hi' :D

I am supposed to be camping, but I have popped home to put wet stuff in the TD, and get more trousers, as mine split on the seam last night  and get dry trainers for DH. The site is only 10 miles away!

I also wanted to check everything was ok at home. We live in the driest part of the country (officially). However, yesterday various places around the area were flooded!! Shoeburyness (about 5 miles 'that' way *points*) had 2 inches of rain. 2 inches! Really? Why can't our drains cope with this? When we were in Florida last year, they got at least 6 inches every day, and no problems!! decent storm drains. This country really needs to sort itself out

Everything at home is fine. Emptied cat litter tray, fed the dog. DD1 is still in bed (hung over, and NOT alone! Grrr!) I won't be telling DH as he will go off on one, and my patience is thin enough as it is. There is something very unsettling about spending a night in a tent in a field, while looking at pictures & news reports of flooding in the area! a bit scary! I thought we were going to float away :p the field is faring surprisingly well, which is more than we can say about the roads & the seafront!!

Back (properly) tomorrow. Wish me luck (TD has just finished) Bye!
  • What a week, never been so tired but boys the trips were great. :D I thought it would be fine to have DD's friend down for the summer scheme (Monday night till Saturday afternoon) company for each other but never again, the so called friend gave DD abit of a hard time and I think DD was even relieved when she went home.

This week is to be busy enough too, got free swims for our local pool which need to be used by next sunday and kids have horseriding Tuesday and Friday. Still have a few school things left to get but nearly done. OH and DS1 are away on Saturday to Scotland so i'll take the rest down to see my lot.

Flying wise today I want to get all bedding done, bathroom cleaned, everyone bathed, hair dyied and go for a good walk. Right better get the rest of the kids up. :D

An interesting life, Valli - good on you. And it makes huge sense and you've found a way of making it all useful. *respect*

Bossy - I'm not a parent, so I realise this counts for nothing, but No. (If there is any come back, and in my experience badly behaved children often have parents that don't see any need for boundaries either) then 'She/They found him a little too boisterous on holiday' might make the point without actually critisizing the little !!!!.
    Better is good enough.

Well! I would never have thought to describe it thus! Just goes to show...

anyway I have a new 'theme' for this weeks flying links.

TY Honey Bear - you've made my day!

Honey Bear - the comment for Bossy to store if needed is excellent - nice one!

'a little too boisterous' excellent code for 'is totally out of control and has no boundaries'. *stores in mental file system*

Yorkshirelass and bonnie, thank you re: the headpiece, it's attached to a metal looped comb but it just doesn't grip enough in my hair, thankfully using a plastic comb first seems to be working, it didn't budge as I cooked, hung washing and pottered for a few hours. I too started with an Alice band but thanks to having a giant heid, I was crippled within five mins of putting it on!

    Wedding is on Friday :j

Sitting here with dye on my hair, almost ready to rinse. Not much flying in store as its a BTCC Sunday and we're off to the outlaws at 3.

    Happy Sunday, everyone :)

    You got my meaning exactly.

About 25 years ago my solicitor, mentor and a very good friend invited me to a dinner party. Towards the end of the evening, over liqueurs at about 11.45pm around the fire, their seven year old son was lying on the rug and started kicking me by sliding his leg over the rug, repeatedly and with increasing force. I said, 'D(name), could you stop kicking me, please.' The kicking continued. I said, 'D, stop kicking me.' The kicking continued. I slapped his leg and said 'Stop kicking me now.' Which he did.

I totally disagree with hitting children (or animals) and am still shocked by my own behaviour. I was also rather surprised that his parents thought it was appropriate for a child of his age to be up at that time of night, and at a dinner party, and had allowed him to kick a guest without intervening, and then ignored my slapping his leg (only once, in my defence).

The saddest thing about it is that I lost respect for my much admired mentor and friend and it made me doubt her judgement. The friendship never recovered. When she retired I took her out to lunch the day I picked up all my paperwork, knowing I would never see her again.

Badly behaved children are a fact of life and we all know it isn't the child at fault. They pay the price at some point for their parents' choices and I think that's cruel.
    Better is good enough.

    Well said.

How sad that you lost respect for your mentor. I can quite see why.
