I live in terraced house. Everyone has a driveway however my next door neighbour always block my driveway. I confronted them today and their excuse was it wasn't them and it was their guests and wandered off.

We have two cars and the way they/ their guests whoever park (no one beside them block my drivway) we can't get our cars out off our driveway. Its been happening quite a lot recently. How can they think it's okay for them or their guests to block my driveway? There is free parking just around the corner.

Can someone please advice me what to do? I am thinking of blocking them in everyday when they are going to work until they get the message. Can anyone tell me legal side of things please.

not really helpful but it is never clear cut I have been advised by police that access from the driveway to the highway can be enforced by them(if they can be bothered) whereas access to your driveway (i.e. private land) is not their jurisdiction.

Hi, thanks for reply. I am in different council to you. I will ring them and ask them if I need to contact police or what.

Meanwhile have you any idea if I can get done for blocking their driveway just to show them how it feels?
  • That`s not my council just a link I had:)

If you get into the whole tit for tat thing it could end up getting nasty or damage to your cars.

Can you park one of your cars at the bottom of your drive for now and speak tour local police.

I have had this problem with my neighbours in the past but after a few stern words it stopped, good luck.

don't use your driveway, park where they are parking at the moment. Tell them you're doing it because you have a sick/elderl;y relative you might need to get to in a hurry and cannot afford to be blocked in.

The council will send a warden out to ticket them in 5 minutes.

The police can be called if it is causing an obstruction, in which case the vehicle is removed.

I'm assuming you have a drop kerb? It's only that if you don't then you don't have a leg to stand on. Otherwise have a moan to the council when they do it next.
  • Revenge is a dish best served cold, when the time comes to move on try to sell to the most horrible person/family from hell you can find.

In the meantime, you can't have reasonable discussion with such people they are too thick/obtuse/ignorant and you will only frustratingly waste your time/breath/energy and they will get enjoyment from your discomfort and laugh about whilst they watch themselves starring on Jeremy Kyle repeats.

If you come down to their level trying tit for tat they will always beat you with experience, you either remove the offending vehicle by some means ('unknown' bruiser friend with 4x4 whilst you are out and have no knowledge) or lump the situation.

Yes you can - it's illegal to park across a dropped kerb, with an exception for blocking your own drive. As above if you're I'm a decriminalised parking area the council will likely have a phone number where you can report this type of thing and they'll only be too glad to send a CEO round to collect a few quid from the owner. If you don't have decriminalised parking you'll need to contact the police who may be a bit slower but will hopefully send a traffic warden/PCSO eventually to ticket for obstruction. Don't get into a game of tit for tat in the meantime.

As you know who owns the cars knock the door and ask them to move every time you need to go out. Ask them to stop parking there. If they continue contact the police or council.

Leave your cars on the roadside, then when they park in front of the drive way block them in. In the end they will knock on your door so you can keep them waiting for 5 minutes before moving the cars. They will think twice next time :)
