So leave now then? A contact allows both parties notice and you think any employer thinks of the employee when they say make them redundant?
You are allowed to leave you know.
I need money coming in! And it looks bad leaving after less than 2 months.
Good point about the redundancy. I was made redundant from my last job although as it was the 4th round of redundancies in as many years, I asked to go as I'd had enough by then. They sure as hell didn't think of the employees.Though no one can go back and make a brand new start, anyone can start from now and make a brand new ending0 -
That's like you asking the MD what are his or hers long term plans with the company and you can only invest working for a company who wont let you go in the next say 3 or 5 years!
You say what you say to keep the job if you want it.
Good analogy, thanks! Not sure how to explain it to her if I do want to leave within about the next two years though.Though no one can go back and make a brand new start, anyone can start from now and make a brand new ending0 -

The other thing is I'm not sure I do like the job. It's nice hours, very little stress (they think it's stressful though!) and is filling some of the gaps I had in my knowledge of the field from my previous role, but I find the place rather 'backwards' in a lot of ways. Having only been there for less than 2 months and with only a years contract I was happy to see how things went for now, but now it seems my hand is being forced.
Well if you have a permanent contract, you may be able to change things from within, by making suggestions. Something you can't really do on a temp contract.0 -
So er yeah you need the £ so stay? If you want to leave later as you move away then do so. I am sorry but I don't think you owe a company an explanation as to where you think you may be in a year or why you may want to leave in the future.
TBH I agree and I was quite taken aback by the conversation this afternoon.Though no one can go back and make a brand new start, anyone can start from now and make a brand new ending0 -
I know. And the fact that I've relocated for the job...at the moment there's all sorts of things going through my head...like I'm further away from my family and friends and is this job worth it? Is the distance for the career worthwhile in the longer term.
She seems to want an answer reasonably quickly. In the next few weeks I think as it's going to affect her planning for training and projects etc. I was taken on to cover someone off long term sick and now I wonder if they've heard she's not coming back, therefore they've lost an employee from the books.
Or maybe they like you.0 -

I'd like to think so, but it seems quite heavily ingrained at most levels. With a different manager it may be possible, but she seems to like things doing her way and God help you if you don't. Ideas and improvements aren't encouraged. It's one of the reasons why I'm not sure about staying. I've come from a company with (for the most part) a quite democratic, informal management style where you're given autonomy to work as/when/how you is best for you, you're given responsibility and made accountable and your targets are the measure of your performance. For example, at this new company you're not allowed to listen to music through earphones in the office as you're working. The role is desk-based and there are few phone calls etc. They reckon you could be listening to music instead of working. Now at my old company, my boss let me decide how I work best, organise my own time. It was my work and up to me to do it in the best way for me. I get very distracted by surrounding noise and I'm more productive with some reasonably continuous music on. I didn't disturb anyone else and I could have listened to whatever I wanted because the only thing my old boss measured me on was my performance and what I'd delivered.Though no one can go back and make a brand new start, anyone can start from now and make a brand new ending0 -

I don't know. It's hard to judge what they think of me. I keep being given pieces of work that my manager seems surprised I can do, when they're not very difficult?! I feel like I don't fit in because the work culture I've come from is the complete opposite to that at my new company, but maybe that's only my perception.Though no one can go back and make a brand new start, anyone can start from now and make a brand new ending0
