Where do you get umbrellas fixed??

Hello all

I hope this is the right place to put this query. My daughter has managed to break her umbrella, the wire bit which holds all the spokes together has broken. It doesn't look too much of a major job to mend it but is beyond my capabilities. Does anyone know where on earth you take an umbrella to get it mended? It may well be cheaper to buy a new one but that is too shocking, I would rather get this one fixed!

Thanks
Ali

    Hello ali99

The famous umbrella maker James Smith & Sons has a repair service. If you contact them, they will confirm whether it is better value to repair the umbrella or replace it.;)

    Regards

I was thinking the same thing but maybe it was an expensive one in the first place:confused: or maybe a sentimental gift?
Never heard of anyone repairing them either though.

Yes I know it sounds a bit mad, its just that it doesn't look so hard to repair, and I don't like everything becoming disposable. It was a gift and has eeyore on it (she is 4!) and she loved it very much, to the point of hoping for rain, and I can't find one exactly the same. I will try the company that Nile suggested.
    thank you for your help

  • Unfortunately James Smith & Sons will only repair umbrellas that were bought from them originally.

I'm looking for a repairer too. I have several good quality - and some antique - umbrellas, one of which I bought in Venice which just needs a new bobbley bit on the end of one spoke. It's far too good for the landfill, certainly, and has sentimental value.

    Any help appreciated.

i doubt there are any general umbrella repairers left in the whole uk now.
when items such as these cost about 1/5 quid, why repair? who is going to pay for a repair?
    Get some gorm.
  • Well, there's two people right here who would pay for a repair, ormus.

Not everyone wants to replace sturdy, quality stuff with cheap disposable tat, I guess.

obviously not that sturdy or it wouldn't need repairing ;) :rotfl:

  • My MIL was shocked when I said that I didn't darn socks but threw them in the bin when they had a hole in them! It wouldn't even occur to me to think of getting an umbrella mended.....I suppose society has made us become a throw away nation.
