Orange /EE phone upgrade

HI Peeps

I have a problem...

I have been with Orange for 6 years on a contract. I phoned up in May to upgrade my phone from an iphone 4 to an Iphone 5.

They gave me all the usual info, and the phone came out to me no problem.

Now i have found out, that although the orange account showed on my credit file as Everything Everywhere, they have closed that account and opened a new account under the name of EE. as far as i was concerned i was upgrading my phone and nothing else.

Now I have had numerous other problems with this change over, but no one at any point told me that this would happen on my credit file. This has knocked my credit score down, which I have been working very hard to repair.

Is there anything i can do about this ?

How has it affected your credit score?

Orange is EE so would show up as this.
Why would this effect your credit file? Even if they started a new account as long as you have paid the bill they wouldn't adversely effect your credit rating. Did your number change with the new phone?

You will need to give more info on these other problems as you have no complaint about orange calling themselves EE (orange doesn't exist anymore).

It is an entirely new account named EE

The old account which had been open for 6 years, was Everything Everywhere

They never told me a new account would be opening on my credit file. I have upgraded my phone before and not had a new account, my phone number has always been the same.

    As per credit expert:
Negative Factors: You have recently opened 1 or more new credit accounts

I wouldn't worry about that. I doubt it will have the negative effect that you fear. I don't think it would affect any future credit applications / results.

Putting that aside, I really don't see what the problem is here? What other numerous problems have you encountered?
  • Technically it is a new account, because it's a new contract with a new minimum term you've taken out - that's what an upgrade is.

But why on earth does it matter, and what negative impact could it have on you?

(You do know that "credit score" values are meaningless, don't you?)

I am worried about it as it HAS affected my credit score and comes up as a Negative factor affecting my credit score.

People look at how many new accounts you have opened when looking to grant you credit, it is one of the main credit scoring criteria.

I am a paid member of credit expert and check my file every month, so i can see changes to my file and score instantly.

    Everything,Everywhere is EE.
Just as British Telecom is BT.

The clue is in the first letter of each word.

No major lender is likely to turn you down simply because you have a new mobile phone contract.
Do you need a perfect score for a reason? If you're after a mortgage etc. this won't have any effect.
If you just want a perfect score for the sake of having a perfect score, well, that's a little silly.

Well thank you all for making me feel as stupid as i feel right now!!

i asked for help, and all i get is this...

    not impressed to be honest...

This place used to be a lot more helpful i must admit.

    The problem i have is.,...

A company should not be able to do this....
    not without my knowledge...

you may not think that this is a problem, but someone one else may have a similar problem in the future and look at my post for a solution on how to deal with it...

what will they see.... This !!!!!!

    Thanks MSE

What exactly have they done that you think shouldn't have?

When you upgraded, you took out a NEW contract ending the previous one which you'd previously taken out contract with a company called Orange. They'd recorded it correctly.

That contract was ended when you upgraded, and you've now taken out a NEW contract with a company which has changed its name in the meantime. And that NEW contract is recorded correctly against the company you took it out with : EE (Everything Everywhere).

How did you want them to display this?
