I'd contact TNS and ask if they know how this has happened.

Perhaps something along the lines of ...

I'm very disappointed to receive your letter bringing me the sad news that I can no longer be part of the TNS mail survey...

You might just get the answer you're looking for.

Thanks quoia, in fact I had already written to them expressing polite disappointment and yesterday got a very kind reply with all the details:

"a posting pack sent to one of our panellists was not delivered and then not collected from the local sorting office. When items of mail cannot be delivered by Royal Mail and they are not claimed by the intended recipient, such items are sent unopened to the National Returns Centre in Belfast. Undelivered items of mail can be opened there in order to identify whom the item should be returned to. The contents of this item would have revealed it as a TNS survey item, and because you were one of a number of panellists whose addresses were listed on the posting plan this identified you as a survey panellist to Royal Mail.

The Belfast Centre forwarded it directly back to us in West Bromwich because our address was on the SMART.

We were then required to take you off the survey due to our impartial role of overseeing the independent measurement of the quality of service which Royal Mail provides. "

So I wasn't the only one, but just especially unlucky that I had only been on the panel for four weeks before this, presumably unusual, situation arose. I can possibly rejoin the panel ... if I move address! Now I wonder what on earth happened to the panellist who failed to collect - imagination can be a terrible thing. :rotfl:

So the Belfast centre didn't notice the "Return to sender" address on the front of the plastic bag then?? No point them putting it on there! LOL

Items dont just get sent to RLB as a matter of course.
As I said previously. I expect there to be damage rendering the return address illegible.

However that isn't what they said in their reply, they told blahblahdoh that it wasn't collected from the local sorting office so was then sent to Belfast. Nothing about it being damaged, hence me questioning why they didn't notice the return address on the front.

Well I would expect the returns address to be damaged/missing.
Hence it was sent to the RLB.
Or are you suggesting it got missed at the delivery office, return journey and at the RLB?

Can't see the point in getting wound up over unimportant things. As for payback, well tns did nothing wrong, in my opinion, and they've treated me with courtesy. The only person to blame is another panellist and who knows what their situation is - could have died, for all we know. Once you're removed from the panel, there is no point in recording anything anyway, and appropriating SMARTS isn't very smart, especially if you hope to get back on the panel next time you move.

Anyway, I did get my April incentive and a far-too-tiny box of mini eggs; also, no more re-opening packages when I forgot to put the bloody SMART in damn it, so: Happy Days.
