I can appreciate the comments made about why the letter/package needs to have the correct contents, but surely as long as it bears the correct postage required for the survey it should go through the system as an appropriate item - or am I missing something here?

So if TNS do not send the paper/cardboard insert for me to use but the envelope has the correct postage, why should you find it necessary to put your own extra stuffing in?

So a normal "small" letter (under 240mm x 165mm x 5mm and weighing less than 100g) BUT with a 74p (LARGE LETTER SECOND CLASS) stamp on it, would be treated as such (LL2nd) AND NOT as a 1st class letter, that would only actually require 63p postage ?
If it did NOT arrive the next day but 2 or 3 days later, that wouldn't be very good would it ? (Just because you paid over the required amount)

IF you put £5.65 on the envelope would it be handled by the mail staff that usually deal with up to 20kg medium sized parcels ?
After all that's what you've "paid for".

On the second point, TNS had sent cardboard inserts but nothing to pack them with to retain their "assembled shape", and in both cases there was no "correct postage" specified on the envelopes since they were just detailed as 1st class FREEPOST Business Reply and would vary depending upon contents etcetera (and the posting schedule did say £3.30)

I usually just put the SMART in the middle of the cardboard insert to protect it. Then put the paper in separately.

On a different subject, when I'd completed my training, I was phoned up to confirm I'd be starting properly and the bloke I spoke to mentioned that I would be receiving magazines. He asked if there was anything I liked and I said something like a sport, cinema, women's or men's magazine would be good!

Woo, I just spotted there's updated information on my list of items I'm going to receive. The Methodist Recorder wasn't quite what I had in mind ...! I don't think I know anyone to donate it to either.

    What magazines do others get?

Used to be the jewish chronicle (I'm an atheist.)
    Boxing today - barbaric "sport"
Good housekeeping - pass it on to mother
Elle and cosmopolitan - flick through but not really interested.

I shouldn't be getting good housekeeping and cosmopolitan at the moment, so I think they've blipped somewhere.

    From the FAQs:

Do I put the SMART inside the cardboard insert, when included?

No. Please do not place the SMART inside the cardboard insert, as the SMART may not be seen by the receiving panellist.

Oops, they didn't have that instruction in the FAQs when I was last on the panel! :o Won't do that again then.

You'd like to think people would be aware that there are SMARTs in just about everything! When I did this a couple of years ago, I hardly received any SMARTs.

    Hi

My first book of 12 now all used up, and I'm back on the 'live' list (postings suspendedfor about 2 months, as over subscribed??)..

Just wondering how much RM expect us to do, for £7 odd worth of stamps (minimum wage is £6.50?)

the latest package had a flat pack box. Easy to make, but the faffing about with labels, hand writing addresses, time taking to post office etc..

    Is it really worth it?

That's for you to decide, from memory when you first get elevated onto the Live panel you get a book of 12 1st a book of LL 1st and a presentation pack and then monthly a book of 12 1st and a book of LL 1st (I make this £11.36 monthly). If you personally find you are doing too much for this then you have the option to resign.

Just starting my training and I have a letter to post in a post box and jiffy bag to post at the Post Office. I live in a village and the nearest post box is outside the Post Office. Should I post the post box letter in another post box (there is one further up the road from my house in the opposite direction) and the jiffy bag in the box outside the post office, or post them both in the same box - alternatively, I could hand the jiffy bag over the counter, as there is no box in the actual Post Office. Hope this makes sense!

Also, whilst I think about it, when we are training, do we not get sent actual Smarts? I have received a piece of thick card with a code on but there is no actual Smart, just a note to include this Smart with the test letter.
