  • Hi
I am new to surveys, still training and looking for some advice when handing over a jiffy bag item in the post office last week, post guy queried that there was probably to much postage on the parcel for the weight. He proceeded to weigh the item and tell me it should only cost 96p so he'd send it recorded.

I promptly told him no and to send it via regular 1st class post as that's what my "boss" had asked for.

Now what do I do this week as I have the same parcel with same postage to hand over again.

Any advice would be very much appreciated thank you

Will it fit in the post box or does it have to be sent via post office?

    I've done this twice ....

    ... at DIFFERENT post offices.

First time nothing was said but on the second occasion it was mentioned that the postage (£3.30) was rather more than required. (95p)

Indeed the man offered to RE-STAMP the item and give me a REFUND  :D

I said I was just posting it on behalf on somebody else.

HOWEVER, on both occasions they did weigh it AND try it through the "Letter Size Guide" and indeed it did (with "gentle" persuasion - didn't exactly fall through) pass within the 25mm gap that is the maximum thickness for a LARGE LETTER item.

That's why it's "potentially possible" for it to be just 95p (Large letter) and NOT the £3.30 (Small PACKET/PARCEL)

I've got another one to do next week and personally I'm inclined to MAKE SURE that the jiffy bag WILL NOT pass through Large Letter Slot (25mm) by making the contents RATHER FATTER than before by folding it slightly differently. :)

IF they WANTED you to put it in a POST-BOX then that's what they would ask you to do.

Posting schedule says POST OFFICE because they want you to HAND IT IN AT THE COUNTER.

    actually no
do i use the postbox inside or outside the post office?

you can post your items in the postbox outside the post office, which is our preferred option.

Our new system allows you to add post offices as well as post boxes. To select a post office please click on manage my posting methods.

As Mashadow states yep post it in the box outside the post office. I have done this for a few year now and never had any queries. I only queue to post cubes.

dosnt even need to be right outside the postoffice. as long as its in the first part of the postcode area that you signed up for. then thats all that matters for them

I had a parcel to post APL and my friendly local subpostmaster tried to persuade me make it smaller as it was just a few mmtrs too big for the size below.

It was very light obviously so he suggested I make the box slightly smaller for the cheaper postage.

My husband told him we were selling fresh air !

Incidently, my local shop never ask what is in a parcel only ask to confirm nothing prohibited in it. The main PO do ask what is in it so I avoud posting there.
