You don't need to install anything. Just enter the new licence number from the new disk you have purchased into 2012.

But I want the benefits of the updated version (hopefully):)

That's ok, but still don't use the disc, use the download and use the licence from the disc when necessary. Otherwise you'll have to do the same thing twice.

What would I have to do twice? Sorry, am I missing something here?

  • Going from KIS 2012 to 2013 Kaspersky recommend uninstallig 2012 first.

2014 is still very new and there are several teething problems with it, I'd wait before installing it if I were you..

Must be missing something also. If they use the download or the Disc it will only be once.

the new KIS 2014 would need KIS 2013 installed first. using the download upgrade you wont need any licence as it would just use the licence already in your system.

I have been using Kaspersky for over 10 years now, so have a fair idea how their system works

yes and installing the disc will do this, while the download is basically just an upgrade.

I didn't realise that, I've only ever installed it from Downloads from the Kaspersky site.

Am I right in thinking that licenses are "Country specific" now. So if you've got a license from Ebay from the US say, it won't work in the UK?

Not that it particularly affects me as I get mine free with Barclays Online banking :) But may be worth mentioning if it is true.

Yes this is true, but if you get the licence from a USA trader and can prove this them Kaspersky UK will provide a UK licence. well they dod with me 3 years ago when i got a copy of Pure from a US ebayer. you have to provide them with the US licence so they can verify if its a genuine licence or a clone.

I s till have 100 days left on my KIS 2013 licence and a direct renewal is £39.99, but i can get a genuine copy for £15 to £25

The disc will likely not contain the latest patches, though of course once the databases are fully updated the patches will be installed anyway, even if using the disc.

Since KIS 2013 was released in August 2012, the disc may be quite outdated.

as soon as you install it will check for updates and update the database automatically

No, it won't. You can uninstall all previous versions and run a clean install of KIS 2014.
