MyHermes, Interview cancelled - avoid!!

I am sure there has been other posts about this company but I just want to say what an appalling company to deal with.

I was due a delivery but wasn't exactly sure at what point in the 3-5 day delivery guarantee it would rock up. I'm also having issues with our front doorbell system in my block of flats not working for the last year (thats a whole other thread!) and so when I ordered I wrote in the box asking for special instructions in great big CAPITAL letters that a phone call to ....... (my number) would be required as the bell is not working.

This morning, I go onto the tracking as I received an email late last night to let me know I could track What do I see.... I see this:

15/08/2013 08:10 Not Delivered - Access Problem

Never mind, I thought, even though I had given instruction to contact me, the card will have a number on so I can give them a bell and reinforce the need to call my phone. I go to the post box and there it was. Now call me stupid but what use is a Sorry I missed you card without the following:

-name
-contact number
-next delivery attempt date

What the heck!!! I've spent the best part of this morning chasing this up. Called Hermes... who told me they don't deal with the parcels (and yet they are openly providing a phone number to call when things go a miss) and I need to contact the seller. It's been left with me being told to wait until tomorrow when I am sure that the Hermes driver can ignore my instruction all over again only I aren't here. I am due in London at a job interview. So I call the seller up again and sternly told them that as either they didn't pass instruction or ignored it could they contact the courier and call me back with a time for today if not at least a phone number I can call. That was 3 hours ago.

It looks like I am going to have to cancel my long awaited and hard worked for interview to sit and wait out the front for the grumpy lady and for this parcel from 7.30am to avoid further cards and frustration. I have been very upset as this also was to take with me on Saturday as a gift for someone who I see very little of.

This is not the first time that I have had problems like this and from looking around a couple of forums I aren't the first. I avoid buying off of Ebay as they use them and now I shall be avoiding this seller in future which is a shame.

I shall wait with baited breath tomorrow and see if they roll up.....

Why do you need to cancel your interview? Surely that is far more important than receiving a parcel.

Why not contact the seller as Hermes have suggested saying that you will be out tomorrow and suggesting different times for them to arrange a redelivery.

Then put the parcel out of your mind and get the job!
  • Thats what I have done. Contacted both hermes direct who told me that they have nothing to do with it. The seller has told me to wait and stay in for it tomorrow. I need it to take on Saturday. It is very important.

Seller can't instruct on timings. It appears only I can do this even then it's not guaranteed however I have no contact number of the courier to tell them. I'm sure I explained that.....

Can you not have it left with a neighbour?

Do you not have a friend who can parcel sit at your flat?

What's more important - the content of the parcel or the interview?
Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)

I wonder how much it would cost MyHermes to ring all its customers.

Don't MyHermes also deliver to local shops where you can then go to in the evening to collect?

I would say they could add that into their parcel costs, when arranging a collection with Hermes it does ask for recipients phone number in case they need to contact them and wont allow you to continue unless you add a phone number. You also dont get an automatic signature as you have to chose this at a further cost of £1

no but they do have a small network of myhermes drop off shops https://www.myhermes.co.uk/parcelshop
  • Do you know Road hog... I wish they did!!! It would take a lot of messing around out of the equation for alot of folks!

Strapped - No I don't have that luxury I'm afraid. Non of the tenants here are what you'd call trustworthy which is a shame. But I have to wonder if the courier would follow that instruction as they seem unable to follow any other simple ones I've used before such as please call to gain my attention that you are at the door. (I live round the back so can't see the front)

No, not at the moment. You can drop off, but not collect parcels.

    Collect Plus offer this service.
