Vehicle blocking my council garage
I rent a council garage opposite my house which contains my only vehicle & transport to work.
A neighbour has taken to parking his car right up against my garage door blocking my access.
I know who the car belongs to and have had to knock the door several times to ask them to move it so i can get in/out and have even put up a "no parking" sign on my door but they continue to park there.
As i work shifts i am in/out at various times sometimes early morning/late night and they won't always answer their door or move the car and today i had to get a lift into work as i couldn't get anyone to respond and move the car.
This is really annoying as i pay rent to use the garage and it's a condition of my insurance that when at home my vehicle is in the garage and yet i have limited access (only when this neighbour is out or at work).
I live in a cul-de-sac so parking is limited and all 4 garages usually are blocked by cars parked in front of them but the others are either empty or rarely used, mine is used constantly every day.
Who should i contact to either have a word with them or take action to stop parking in front of the garages?

Do you have a sturdy friend with a sturdy 4x4, next time there's no reply get friend round and drag the thing out the way.
This twit is too ignorant for niceties so don't waste your breath or time bothering..0 -
have a chat with plod or the council parkies and get them a ticket.
you have a lot more patience than me though. I'd have put a brick through the window and shoved it out of the way by now. What if there was no such thing as a rhetorical question?0 -
He's not the only one who parks there though so ideally need it to be all a "no parking" zone (as it should be).
The regular offender is a bit of a nutter so i'd dread comeback as i'm on my own, would prefer the council or Police to stop parking and enforce it but don't know who is responsible for this.0 -

This is advice that could land the OP in trouble.
OP, apart from speaking to the council and placing a sign on the garage asking people not to block, if it's on a public highway, and the vehicles are taxed, insured and (if old enough) MoT'd, there's little you can do.

I would not care what time of the morning or night it is, I would proceed to hammer his door and ring his bell until he answered it and moved his car.:A:dance:1+1+1=1:dance::A

I would contact the council parking enforcement people - look on your council website. I *think* the offending car could get towed away if it's blocking you in and you are unable to get your car out (but not if it's blocking you out)Now free from the incompetence of vodafail0

is it onto the roadway or onto council land?
if it is the latter get on to the council and complain. Is his house council property? If so you could cause him a lot of grief. Whatever, he'll know it is you though so you need to be prepared to stand your ground. What if there was no such thing as a rhetorical question?0 -
Doesn't matter what you do, it's going to create friction.....
I would take the extreme route and get a friend to move his car.
Sounds like the type of person who'll only understand if you play hardball, otherwise he'll just see it as a game and make your life cr4p until you move out.“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

The garages are onto the road with a long drop kerb along the front of them so the cars are half on the drop kerb/drive into the garages and half on the road.
This neighbour owns his house which is behind the garages so he parks against mine because it's the shortest distance for him to walk to his front door.
The problem with me being "locked out" of my garage is that my vehicle is not insured outside of the garage if it is stolen within 500 meters of my house because my previous vehicle was stolen when not garaged and this was the only way i could get insurance, it is a motorbike and i will not park it 2-3 roads away because some twit is parked infront of my garage, besides which i pay rent every month to use this garage and i'm not able to half the time.
trouble is people also come to visit and park in front of my garage as well and i have knocked several doors (annoying other neighbours) trying to locate the owner of a vehicle to get it moved.
Some residents here own 3+ cars and leave one parked blocking my garage whilst they go out in another.
The local Police regularly walk/cycle round here but never so much as look at the cars parked where it says "no parking"0 -
It's not a police matter, hence why you should speak to the council. Alternatively, find out who your local councillor is and get them involved - that's what they're there for
From experience, I have a very efficient local councillor who sorts out all kinds of stuff for people around here.
