He didn't say it wasn't either.

It’s not clear from what the OP wrote but it’s possible she’s a mute.

The offer was £5 off for 6 months which is rubbish IMO compared to what I hear others get or at new connection
  • My sky tv costs me £0 each month.
  • My wife wants to keep it and kids use it to
So I guess I best phone and see what they can do before we get cut off :(

The words that Sky loves most of all. You've become addicted. So, for Sky, result!

It would do no harm to call Sky on the evening before you are due to be cut off “just to check that that is so” and see whether this prompts them to offer you something substantial. But be sure to select the option for “If you are calling Sky to cancel your subscription” (or whatever) and not Customer Services. If you get put through to India, tell them that the line is bad, hang up and try later. Repeat until you get to speak to somebody in Britain: only they have the power to offer you a worthwhile discount.

Whether or not it would be wise for you now to withdraw your notice of cancellation at the last moment, before it takes effect, depends largely upon whether it would be economic for you to give up the HD pack – because you would not be able to get that back subsequently. (As discussed at length in other threads.)

If you are prepared to surrender the HD pack, you have nothing to lose by letting the cancellation go through. If you aren’t then offered a discount in the weeks that follow, and you still want Sky back, you can re-subscribe.

Bear in mind that Sky is playing hardball at the moment with those who want the Sports pack because the football season is about to begin, so this is the optimum time of the year for Sky to hold them to ransom. Ironically, this works in favour of those who don’t want the Sports pack because it means that more of the pot available for discounts is disbursable to them.

Perhaps what all this has shown you is why Sky hasn’t offered you any real discount so far. Sky figured that, when push came to shove, you’d cave in and pay the full tariff rather than quit.

And, so far, it looks as though Sky was correct...

  • Update from OP

I caved in with 48hours to go, as I do want the service, more so the wife

I called up cancellation/retention to double check on cancellation date. The guy asked me why and I said the offers aren't as good as new connections such as 50% off which he said he couldn't offer.

    What I got was
Entertainment extra current price £27, I've been paying circa £24 as an older customer and with a deal of 20% off for 9 months so at £19.10 a month for 9 months.
Also I got a free HD box which comes with 12 months warranty. 250GB machine versus my current 80GB and also gives me ON Demand service

So its not a saving like new customers but still less than current RRP

So at least I've managed around £80 savings over a year with new box.

Would like to add movies but too pricey for me, so thinking lovefilm or Netflix

I was hoping retentions to call but nothing yet!

When we get to the end of the MSE £10 something a month deal, will it just turn off then if I don't do anything? I was going to call and cancel it.

    No. That's the sting.

When your discounted period ends, your Sky service will continue uninterrupted and Sky will silently start charging you the full, undiscounted tariff.

If you'll want to cancel the service, remember that you need to give Sky 31 days' notice – so call them a month before your discount is due to end.
