this will be the first time in nearly 5 years that my wages will be going in to my bank account & they will be all mine & not a penny overdrawn
Yes, it's a wonderful feeling isn't it! I'm right at the beginning of my debt-free journey, but I've been able to rejig enough things already to just have some money left at the end of the month and not vice versa!
I had a small amount on a store card - it's paid off now and although it's a drop in the ocean compared to the rest of the debts, it's a big psychological step to be able to say the first debt's paid off!Unfortunately I've been diagnosed as having brain cancer and am currently undergoing treatment. More details as I get them...0 -

Why don't you split up the debt you now owe your dad into the ccs etc you previously owed then as you pay your dad back you can tick them off your virtual list. Or break down the debt to your dad in chucks and come on here to celebrate each £500 or £1000 you pay off
It's all about keeping motivated:D
It's payday for me today and have gone with your idea of breaking my debt down into what I previously owed and have now paid off the first and smallest of my debts, which is an overdraft of £1700. So that is 1 down and 8 to go!LBM: Dec 2012 - Debt £38,180/ Now £0.

Yeah, even something as simple as breaking a larger debt down into smaller ones and ticking them off gives a a certain degree of satisfaction!
I'm hopeful that I can get below the 30k mark by the end of the year.
I'll await your update in this thread then!LBM: Dec 2012 - Debt £38,180/ Now £0.

Keep 'em coming, guys!!
This thread is fantastic!
It's great to start getting out of debt and has given me a real boost since I started taking the journey seriously a year or so ago.
But I also get a little tinge of that when I read about other people starting to get their debts sorted too. Life can be **** sometimes so it's refreshing and life-affirming to read about everyone's positive steps, no matter how small they may be.
I won't be posting on here as I only have the one debt left now. This time 2 years ago I had £10,000 debt on a CC, a £10,000 loan and £1500 on my overdraft. I've buckled down, started shopping at Aldi and trying to cut down to bare minimum on everything. I've worked between 70 to 90 hours O/T every month which has helped bust half of the CC debt (the rest is now on a 0% interest Barclaycard) and have zapped the overdraft and - for the first time in 15 years - am finally in credit in my current account to the tune of about £1000 (so far). And I've finally paid off that blasted loan which I first took in 1997 (!) and kept stupidly re-loaning over and over again.
Being in credit meant that, this year, for the first time ever, I was able to stop paying things like car insurance monthly and pay them up front in advance. What a feeling. Previously, I've had over £650 each month coming out of my account in DD's. Thanks to getting my head down, working hard and learning from the amazing people that use this site, I now have only £200 - and that includes £140 paying off the 0% card (which I overpay by £60).
Just as the cycle of debt used to make me feel like I was spinning out of control, it now feels almost as though I am in a cycle of "credit" where I am in more and more control the more I pay off. It feels like the end is finally in sight.
I wish everyone the best of luck and urge you all to keep at it - you WILL get there, debt by debt. It DOES get easier.
I'm still ploughing through 70 or so hours O/T each month because I'm addicted to debt-busting and I want to be free of all debt as soon as possible. I'm at a PC in the middle of the night on many of these "shifts" and your posts and positive steps (however small) keep me going when I feel so tired and need any boost I can get. Thanks to you all!!0 -
I just been accepted for a Balance transfer card and i'm going to be shifting my existing cc (400) and one of my OD (900) on to the card to pay off £100 a week. That is the quickest way I can get rid of the two and focus on the one.
But slowly slowly, Good things come to those who wait!

Start of Mission to eradicate debt (July 2013): £13,600
Target: Debt free by Dec 2014 (exc mortgage)0 -
This is a great thread :T I too am ploughing through them and have managed to pay off my smallest which was barclays cc for 698.00 last month. Now on to the Natwest. Started out at just over 4k. After today's payment, will stand at 1.9k
I have a few more after that one at just under 4k a piece, but i'm now focused and WILL not stop until i get there
Hoping to be debt free by 2016 the latest, but even if it takes longer, I will still continue in this direction.

my smallest credit card balance which in the grand scheme of things is just a drop in the ocean but I don't care! I did the happy dance round my lounge when I saw the zero balance on the account online - one debt down, loads more to go

Instead of relying on credit this Christmas I have been squirrelling away money each month towards a PS4 for hubby's Christmas.
Today was the last payment and for once I have the cash there ready for launch day :T
This is a brand new me!
