  • Love this thread, great to hear others achieving a goal that we're all striving towards, in one way or another.

I find these little wins are so important when the goal can quite often be so long term.

Keep up the good work everyone!

    Eighth Anniversary Debt-free and Proud!
Wretched, WRETCHED Apple finance. I hated this debt so much. I stupidly used it to buy DH a present (pre-LBM of course!) and knowing there was a debt on it has been horrible. Didn't think I'd be able to get shot of it until the end of the month, but then a surprise council tax rebate came through!

And now it is paid off in full. THANK GOD. All right overdraft, I'm coming for you!

  • Just finished off paying my £250 overdraft with Coop bank on the 21st Feb :-) Not a huge amount, but then I never had a huge amount of debt anyway. Feels so good to look at my balance and know everything in there is mine!

I must say that cooperative are a very nice bank, at least in my experience. They were flexible with me and agreed to a reducing overdraft (as in they reduced the overdraft by £20 each month). Unlike Llloyds who sent me a letter out of blue saying the account had gone to collections and I MUST PAY IT ALL NOW.

Anyway, just the debts in my siggie now, which are being paid off at £20 a month collectively. When I'm in a more financially stable situation, I'll increase the monthly payments.

I also started my savings back up after having to use them :( £10 a month so far and I also have a change jar which I transfer to savings every £50.

Whoo woo, feels so good paying off debts!

Almost debt-free after 6 years - one month to go, down from £25,000. I've been a regular reader of the forum for years and it's really helped, knowing there's support out there. Some of the advice has been really really helpful.

I've used an app on my phone to track my bank account & keep an eye on spending, opened another account to piggy bank for car costs so a big payment doesn't come as a shock, and to save monthly for the (cheaper thank 6 monthly) annual car tax bill. Knowing how much I have left after payday once bills are paid means I'm much less likely to do random shopping or spending, as I already know I don't have the money in the account.

The biggest thing is changing your mindset - do I really need to buy that item or spend that money? As other posters have said, you often don't want whatever it is several hours/days/weeks later. Whatever I buy now has to justify itself.

I just really like looking at the app on my phone and seeing the numbers in black and not red; it's such a good feeling - I want to keep hold of that positive feeling for as long as I can. That's my motivation!
  • I've been wanting to post on this thread for ages!! :D the last payment of a 3 year loan has just gone out of my account today :j :T Can't even remember what it was for - to clear my credit cards but then they magically got full again!! Ah well it's gone now and I certainly will never ever be getting such a loan ever again!! Just £1680 to go!!!!!
