As of 10 minutes ago I got to join this thread :) I've just paid off my vanquis card :D

There was a small balance owing and it was by far the lowest balance when I contacted SC so I've cleared it (was also highest interest) one more debt GONE FOREVER

I'm 22 years of age and I'm definitely not a naturally good saver. I've recently managed to put aside £2000 though and today decided to pay off my debts I've built up over the last couple of years. So far today I've paid:

    Littlewoods - £563.40
    Very - £153.53

I'm hoping to reach a settlement with my CC debt today too and pay off the agreed amount after receiving the arrangement confirmation in writing. It's certainly not fun but I'm pleased I've gone through and paid these debts. Reading this forum has been a big help in motivating me to be more responsible with my money.

Do creditors not see it as preferential treatment if you settle one account first, or is that only if you are in a DMP because I would like to settle a couple of my accounts but am bothered incase the other creditors see it as preferential treatment and start charging interest again, at the moment most of mine aren't charging interest so I don't want to 'rock the boat' I am in a DMP

My DMP hasn't actually started yet. This balance was slightly over £80 when I initially contacted SC (a drop in the debt ocean :() I was able to scrape that together so it has been excluded from the DMP and paid off before my first payment to SC was made. Your question will probably be better answered on the main board or the DMP support thread.

Right peeps, its great to see how far this thread has come since I started it way back when and I'm so glad that so many of you are sharing your joy at cutting up those credit cards and dashing those overdrafts.

I have just cleared 2 overdrafts (800 and 500) one which i had for 12 years - yes i know.

And now for my final trick - I will make this Balance Transfer card and Graduate Loan collectively of £6500 completely disappear!!

Start of Mission to eradicate debt (July 2013): £13,600

Target: Debt free by Dec 2014 (exc mortgage)
  • I just paid off the first of 5 debts in my DMP - actually it was originally 3 debts - a loan and two overdrafts - but First Direct rolled them into one at the start of my DMP. Stepchange are making the July payment to them today so I rang up and paid what would be the balance and next months interest (totalling £85) so it is all clear! :j:j

This means my other creditors will be getting a much bigger sum from August and I can't wait to see the figures come down quicker. Feels like a turning point :)
