hi madrhino - thanks for taking the time to post. 'Pets' is still one thread which to me is 'genuine'. people take the time to read and respond in a genuine way to posts. the rest of the forum? its being taken over by nasty people who have an 'agenda'.
yes - I had forgotten it is bank holiday - I meant to ring them Tuesday for his appointment which should be Thursday.
I wasn't impressed with the lad on reception. when I said the vet wanted to see Barnes a week Thursday he just looked at me blankly! so I said I would phone a few days before. and I had to ask for Barnes meds twice before he stirred himself and went to get them. lol, I didn't even change Barnes 'details' because I felt he was a 'dozy git'. I will do it next time.0 -
he was so much better today! didn't ring vets - no point really.
its been an awful day weatherwise - rained nearly all day. Barnes stared longingly out of patio doors - and kept giving me pathetic looks - BUT, as I keep telling him - I am NOT in charge of the sun and rain! He played with GD1 for a while, but not for long . Eaten like a starving navvy and drinking plenty - I am very happy with the way his treatment is going.
now I have to teach DS1 how to give him his meds (assuming he still takes them next week) and I am not happy leaving him. OH wouldn't hear of a resident pet sitter. strangers in HIS bed - his house? no (Blank Blank) way!
now I must get a cat carrier - some food for Barnes, and bigger bowls so he can be left a days supply of dry food and more water than his bowl currently holds.
Son is reliable and his wife will pop in daytime to check on him. and make sure I change his details up the vets! just 'in case' DS1 has to pop him up.0 -
Okay - I had to pop over to Home Bargains to pick up part of GD1s Christmas pressie - DD had given me the heads up that they are currently stocking Katy Perry Perfume for the astounding price of £16.99 for the large size! GD1 adores this, its her 'signature perfume'! so while I was there I checked out their pet carriers - and got barnes a cloth one - it was only £9 and as I am not planning on carting him about a lot .................it will do for the occasional vet visit. he is at least 2 kilos below the recommended weight limit - though the way he is eating, he may exceed it very soon!
put it down for him to get used to and he has found it to be a very satisfactory 'catcave'! spent most of the afternoon and this evening in it!
also found the Sheba mini pouches a bit cheaper than anywhere else. and his brekkies and dreamies - so stocked up on those.
he is my boy again! seems fully recovered from the infection and his skin is still healing nicely. I am hoping now that the vet will let him have his spot on and wormer (though not looking forward to paying their prices). he has his appointment for Thursday.
I dunno how many times I have opened the French doors today! he wouldn't set foot outside as soon as he saw the decking was wet! even when the sun came out - No, its too wet!
now I have to work on the list of Barney instructions for DS1.
going on holiday Saturday and will be away for a week. so sorry folks - I don't DO computers on holiday. and I have a 'dumbphone' it only makes and receives calls and text. no tablet or laptop. but, I have been thinking about getting a tablet, its just I have no idea if I can use one to post updates....................advice please? the holiday site does have free wifi.0 -
Yip you would be able to post no problem at all, you just have to log into the wifi there and your all set!
I'm not particularly techi myself, mostly because dh and ds are and I don't have to be but I use my phone to post most of the time and it's simple, hope you have a fab time xx0 -
thanks nonnie! I am ashamed to say I have a shedload of computer qualifications! all on PC though and Tablets are a mystery to me. I do love learning something new though................so may get one tomorrow if they still have any.
I shall be texting/calling DS1 for updates on my Barnes. every day probably - he is going to get soooooo annoyed with me!lol
he is rather enamoured of his Travel Bag - spent a lot of time in there today. even took in his favourite mouse! the one that's really a hedgehog. was that a subtle hint he may feel more secure if I took that with him up the vets?
I bought some little tins of chicken and duck in Home Bargains yesterday - opened one and it looked just like his Applaws - but he ate a mouthful and walked off!!!!!!!!!!!!! couldn't have tasted the same. so two more for Atrix! he had a box of pouches off me yesterday as I had mistakenly picked up a box of fish variety.
He is fishing his toys out of the basket and playing with them happily now! when he isn't in the CatCave. I tried 'Pingponguppastairs', but he isn't quite up to that yet............. gave me the 'Youmustbejoking' look and stalked off!
oh jeez - I don't think I have got enough Barneyfood in! he is now having Two pouches for his supper!
Did I say I had bought bigger bowls? in Home Bargains - large enamel Dog bowls (which say DOG, but I crossed it out and put 'be more CAT!). only 69p each - and wish I had bought dog bowls in the beginning - absolutely perfect for a flat face cat! he can eat his dry food and drink much more easily from them - and I am not forever topping them up!
(for the threads overseas viewers - 'be more DOG' is a current advertising campaign, with a cat behaving like a dog)0 -
Well, the vet was pleased with Barnes! as am I, he has responded to treatment really well! vet now advises tapering off the steroids. and ending the course in a week. his skin is really much better (a few little scabs but they are dry and dropping off). no sign of infection and NO sign of the heart murmer! I could have kissed her! I got him a spot-on and worming tabs as I was afraid to worm him with tabs from the shop in case they reacted with steroids. not as expensive as I was fearing - the whole lot, with consultation fee, came to a few pennies under £30! and he only needs half the worming tab so will save a few pence there!
Gave DS1 a lesson in giving Barnes his tablet and I will of course leave FULL instructions anyway! Barnes is easy to give tablets to, compared with first cat Timmy who was convinced you were trying to poison him, and fought tooth and claw to stop you - the only cat I know who could clamp his jaw shut like a Staffie! Barnes will co-operate if you wrap him in a towel and cuddle him like a baby. then he waits for his Two Dreamies 'reward'. he thinks it should be more though, as he sniffs and licks your hand after!
I DID get the tablet - my OH bought it me as he thought I had spent enough on vets fees. and its HIS birthday today! rofl - and I got the pressie! been to busy and OH is on Hols so around 24/7 and I haven't been able to get him anything so he had money with his card.
Tablet is now all set up and ready to go! now I just have to learn how to use it!! its very different to the desktop PC I know and love. I keep trying to use a keyboard that isn't there! lol.
grandgirls staying over tonight - they were bridesmaids today and are already fast asleep in bed (why I am late posting). The littlest one wanted to go home so she has got her uncle looking after her - I don't think she likes it here! Barnes is ensconced in the girls room - and I doubt he will move until they get up! he loves to sleep with them.0 -
I think you can get plug in keyboards for tablet if you can't get used to it. I'm not a fan of touch screens myself, so much effort to type on them.0
-
thanks madrhino - will keep it in mind!
had a bit of a play with it today - just warning you all not to expect more than a sentence or two! an interesting device! which got todays weather for my postcode completely wrong! it said 'fine' and its tipped down all day! I bought earphones for it today - well I may want to play music on holiday and I like Heavy Metal! already got that sorted! I may need lessons on other things though - tried to download stuff and it didn't work - or if it did I am dammed if I can find it!
Barnes is still improving - still 'eating for Wales' and I fully expect to see a huge ginger 'blimp' when I come back!
of course he spent the night with the kids! he likes to stay 'in bed' or rather 'on pillow' when they get up, so didn't see him until his lunchtime.
tapering off his meds so he doesn't get a tablet tonight - so no treats either. he doesn't get them for nothing off me - the kids are allowed to let him have some though.
Will give him his lunch tomorrow then we are off!0 -
hi all - we are back from holidays!
now I need a holiday to recover from it!
sorry no posts - the holiday site promised free wifi in their blurb - but they lied! I tried everywhere on site and finally asked at reception where I could get the wifi, to be greeted by hums and harrs and sheepish 'Sorry, its down'!!!!!!!!!!!! OH REALLY?????
still, home now and Barnes managed to open one eye from his comfy seat on the settee and yawn, purr, stretch, then allow me to pick him up and smother him in kisses, while babbling incoherently about how much I have missed my Barnes, my Barnables, my Barnalicious Beauty - he kept gently patting my face and was purring like a Harley Davidson!!!!!!!!!!!! I think he was pleased to see me.lol.
He is looking so much better - his fur is lovely, his skin has healed up and his carers have fallen in love with him! Son and Dil both been loud in his praises! he has apparently charmed them - been such a good boy for them. I feel such pride in him................I knew he wouldn't misbehave - he didn't even take advantage of our absence to poo in the bath!
DIL did say that she thought he missed us - when anyone came in he went running to greet them - and then seeing it wasn't us went back to his perch. He was amusing himself with his toys though - she said she had to pick them up every day.
So its back to normal folks!0 -
