My Wife is a Snob

There are some towns and cities that - deserved or undeserved - have a bit of a reputation for being boring, soulless, or generally a bit rubbish. So even if you enjoy living there you might roll your eyes when saying "we live in X" to acknowledge that and make a joke of it.
I hope you can talk to your wife and resolve this - if it's got to this stage you might want to consider getting some professional counselling. It must be hurtful to feel your home is being criticised, and she shouldn't run it down. Still, I'm surprised by your choice of "ungrateful" to describe her. If you're a partnership you should be grateful for each other. She doesn't have a duty to be grateful to you.0 -
Might be a daft comparison, but I tend to do this when asked what job I do. I am CEO of a charity, but always feel embarrassed to just come out and say that, so when in new company, and asked, I always just say that I work with a charity. If pushed for details, i wil then say I am CEO, but do tend to roll my eyes, as if to say "but it hasn't changed me, honest"
So, what I am trying today, is if you live in a desirable area, your wife might be just like me- embarrassed by their luck, and not wanting to seem to be bragging about it:)0 -
Any update, OP?

Maybe your wife rolled her eyes as she knew that this family friend would think it was not as nice an area and so she wanted to disarm him. Why don't you talk to your wife?0
