DD was delighted because on Friday I got her a long lenth zip up cardi (George at asda) a pair of jeans that actually fit (skinny waist long legs) , with the button elastic inside so they don't fall down, and a pair of fleece pyjamas - grand total £1:)
I went to a charity shop with sis once and she bought a whole new wardrobe of clothes, cost about £30, and we looked for all the things which were 'in' at the time, then took some fashion mag type photos afterwards of her in her new clothes, great fun!Member no.1 of the 'I'm not in a clique' group :rotfl:

Clapham is a right rip off, and there wasnt much doing either, what was there was rags! Tootings pretty good, my mate got a brand new mango jacket shed been hunting for one for ages for 1.50. I got a Guzzini Cruet set, ( a copy is £65 on kelkoo) brand new for £3.00
Also i recommend Woodford on the central line, where OH got a pair of Levis twisters for £3 ( top nick) and I got a red suit ( for the jacket) for a tenner. Not the cheapest round woodford, but very good condition and lots "worth buying"
Will check out golders green this weekend I think
I live in Tooting & really like the charity shops there! Although they all seem to be bumping up their prices - even on the books. It is a bit of a shame, as I like to get a real bargain, but most often they are still at a good price!!
Had a look over the weekend actually, and saw a few nice items, but either not in my size or not something I would actually wear (I think I had my ebay head on!!).

Well you will be pleased to note that I bit the bullet and bagged some fantastic bargains in my local charity shop. The shop had a special £1.50 day and all clothes were this price. I got great branded stuff. I don't think there is any looking back from now on. I think I was just afraid friends of my family would think we were too poor to buy new, pride is a terrible thing. I have pushed it to one side and now have clothes that I look better in than my existing primark wardrobe.Penny xxx

I popped into my local charity shops - didn't really spot anything until I came across a lovely little 'East' scarf for £1.50. Made my Saturday
I'm trying to loose weight and not buy anything in my current size, so accessories really cheer me upEnjoying an MSE OS life0 -
I remember that kids at school used to tease poorly dressed children saying 'oxfam' to taunt them, and my mum would never buy things second hand. I think I rebelled on purpose and went to the village jumble sales and charity shops. Mum will now buy second hand, after years of resistance. I think its because of being poor when she was young, and she remembers nanna cutting up her old clothes to make dresses for mum. Now we think 'oh great, how creative' but then there was a bit of a stigma, so she says. How many teenagers would make their own school uniform nowadays! My mum used to :rolleyes:Member no.1 of the 'I'm not in a clique' group :rotfl:

I popped into the local St Vincent de Paul's shop today (think this one is only in Ireland) and purchased a lovely jumper. It's an olive green colour, the label says Hodgson of Scotland, and it's 75% wool and 25% angora. It feels so lovely and soft. I would swear it's brand new - I found the remnant of one of those plastic tag things around the collar though the actual tags had been removed. Has anybody heard of Hodgson, did I get a star bargain for £3?
SarahSaver...in answer to your question, no I couldn't imagine any teenagers making their own school uniforms. I know I wouldn't have - though I did wear the same regulation skirt for seven years in the name of money saving. My mother did the alterations on it though.
Apple_Mint, good luck losing weight...I've found that the bargains tend to be on the smaller sizes which are no good to me either (assuming you're not a 10, 12 or 14). But if you do happen to spot something at your current size which you like, suits you, is good quality and is a bargain...then buy it! You deserve treats, and you can always donate the item back to the shop once it becomes too big for you.0 -

Again - thank you!
But think of it from your friend's/sister's point of view: they like you and they'd *love* to be involved! It's almost like they get part of the outing too! :T
It's not *charity* it's *friendship* - friends help each other.0
