  • :D Last week I went through my wardrobe and sorted out all the stuff that doesn't fit me. I was pretty depressed as i was only left with 3 pairs of trousers and one pair of jeans that still fitted me :o . I have put the 23 (yes 23!) pairs of trousers, skirts etc away and plan to get more active and eat more healthily after xmas so i can fit into them again. Anyway i was feeling pretty down so i thought i would hit the charity shops to get a couple of pairs of trousers to do me for now. Well how pleased am I. I have just got back with the following -
1 pair F&F black wool trousers
    1 pair warehouse black trousers
    1 pair brown warehouse trousers
    1 pair cherokee jeans
2 (with tags) new New look bras
a brand new single fitted sheet for DS bed
'Dare' boardgame (almost new and put away for xmas)
    2 hardback books (i'm a complete bookworm)
    a PDSA 2008 calendar
All this for the grand total of £19.50!!! :j

So am feeling much better now and i can at last sit down breathe at the same time!!!
P.S I feel that i should point out that although i put away a huge amount of clothes i look after them and they last me for years (as evidenced by the fact that i still have the same coat that i bought 14 years ago!)
  • What a bargain!! Well done.

I have to admit to being a charity shop addict........can't possibly walk past one and get all worried if I can't find a bargain ! Get all my clothes from there, return them when I'm bored with them or they don't fit anymore so the charity gets the money all over again (I just have to be careful not to buy the same things back !)
Me and two friends spend the year buying odds and ends from the charity shops, 50p, £1.........all cheap and cheerful, and make each other up a box of 'bits' for birthdays and christmas. It's fun to shop and one of the best presents to open, not having a clue whats in the number of carefully wrapped parcels. Recommend it to anyone. Start in January with the 'unwanted christmas presents' that get sent there ............you can build up quite a collection.

What did we do before they were there ?

I am a charity shop addict too! Over the last couple of months though, I have been forcing myself to not go in them. It is surprising how much more money I have had in my purse at the end of the week!

I am only doing this as I have had a lot of extra expense, eg. dental bills and car problems, but I am sure some weeks I was spending around £10-15 (hunting for books to sell on Amazon and then having to donate them back!)

    Sounds like some great finds:T

I must admit, I've never bought clothes from a charity shop. Always felt a bit icky about the fact that someone else has worn them. I think it's really because I grew up being dressed in secondhand market stall clothes. Rerely did we get anything that was actually new.

However, my sister's recently started buying clothes from charity shops, and she's had some great finds. M&S trousers and tops that you wouldn't even think had been warn, for just a few pounds each. Really nice....

I never imagined they'd have some good quality clothing in them.
So, having seen her 'finds', I've decided to check our local ones out next time I'm down there:D

Don't worry about the cleanliness part of it Lily...........most of them now have steam cleaners out in the back room and everything is cleaned before it goes on the racks. Help the Aged do a 'return' system..........if you don't have time to try it on there and then, take it home..........if it doesn't fit or istn't quite what you thought you can take it back and get a credit note for something else. Think they do money-back as well but I always ask for credit note.............I know I'm going to fall in the door again.
Must admit to getting carried away sometimes though and these last few weeks with a torn ligament in my ankle I haven't been able to get out and yes, I have had some money in my purse that would have been spent. Plus I must have enough jumpers to start a shop..................lol (note to self.......clear out wardrobe!!!!!)

I got 5 Boden shirts £2 each.. and loads of designer stuff for the children.. fantasic.

I went in one once and for £17 got.. all brand new with shop tags.. a frank usher dress £200, another frank usher dress £175 1 pair velvet frank usher trousers £75 one pair of DUNE velvet trousers £80 and a black frank usher skirt £120... BARGAINOUS !!!!! Sadly the dresses didn't fit.. though I hoped they would so were ebayed.. and I kept the other bits.

Well done SPECSAPPEAL! A girl after my own heart! I very rarely buy anything new these days and, to anyone who has never bought from a charity shop, you don't know what you're missing. Everything is always clean these days and an awful lot of it is just stuff people have become fed up with and is nearly new. It's a great way to get 'new' clothes and support a good cause at the same time.

  • I think the charity shops near me are all a rip off now. In one of them they want between £7 - £12 for trousers and skirts!

Sorry but I would rather go to Primark and get new for the same price. I know they are collecting for charity bit they are also meant for people here taht don't have the money to spend on loads of new clothes.

Charity should start at home abit more if you ask me!
