OK Im getting addicted now because of you lot....
Im sure the lady in the Barnados shop by my bus stop thinks Im a nutter, Ive got 5 minutes in the afternoon between buses. I used to stand by the bus stop and read my book, now I have to dash into Barnados (to see if they have anything new) and then dash out again 'cos I havent got time to buy anything. But I cant stop going in there now Ive broken that "mindset" thing I had going on about being spotted in a charity shop.
I cant wait for the end of term when I am off work for a fortnight, then I can browse to my hearts content. I havent confessed to any of my friends though - I got patronized enough when I mentioned buying things from ebay. I think I shall just keep it to myself and feel smug. At least Im not alone in my new addiction!

you sound just like me, my friends are funny about charity shops, yet if you offered them something you no longer wear they never think twice about accepting it, especially kids stuff. makes me laugh.

I'll let you into a little secret. Golders Green is, in my experience, one of the best locations in London for charity shops...
...Remember though that most of the shops are Jewish and therefore aren't open on Saturday, but are open on Sunday though.
Thanks for the tip, AA. Think there's a direct bus there from my church in Central London, so I might pop up there on Sunday afternoon. I have to ask though - are most of them in the "chaotic independent shops that don't charge exponentially more for designer gear than non-designer" category, or are they higher label-savvy London/major chain prices?

Yesterday I got a brand new next top for my daughter from the local charity shop for 69p a horrid henry book for 10p and a tweenies book for 10p.

Last week I got a lovely new look coat for my 11yr old for £1.20.

My kids friends think they have loads of clothes, and they only cost a small amount

Today I purchased a lovely pair of River island jeans for £2.50 and a lovely fitted black velvet jacket for 50p on the clearence rail.

  • I got a Wallis wool and cashmere blend coat which fits me beautifully for £1.99 today - I'm made up. When my oldest 2 were small I used to get people stopping me in the street to say how beautifully they were dressed, everything came from charity shops. I don't think they are quite so good these days though, so many people sell on ebay.

Oh my life, charity shops are the best things ever!

Part of my loft space is a walk-in wardrobe for all my clothes. Love spotting excellent quality designer clothes at stupid prices :D

I am extremely picky and specific when it comes to what I wear, I have a unique style and wear mostly brand items but I've hardly ever paid full price for them since becoming a moneysaver. Nearly all my brand stuff, D&G, River Island, FCUK, Versaci, Lambretta, Kangol, & many more, all come from charity shops and most of my friends are totally stunned when I point to a branded item and give them a single digit number :D

I've even got a route plan of the most efficient way to walk round each of the charity shops in my home town and I'm quite friendly with most the staff there who are helpful in pointing out things they've seen that they think I'll like which saves loads of time rummaging :) It also helps to know when they replenish the stock in each shop so you can get first pickings!

I think charity shops, for the general populas, have some kind of stigma attached to them :( I don't understand how so something so fantastic that allows people to recycle perfectly usable things, get them at discounted price AND help charity all at the same time can possible have any stigma?! Stupid people, but a lot of my friends now also shop at charity shops and have found some great bargains so they're converts now hehe

I get loads of things, but have started to be more selective, I have bought some rubbish over the years.
Yesterdat I got a lovely DP jacket which has been in the washer already and is waiting to be ironed and a smashing brown jumper.
People comment on what nice clothes I have! if only they knew!!!
