To be honest, I'd be tempted to break a window to let the cat out.:j got married 3rd May 2013 :beer:0

The OP and her neighbours have notified just about everyone who should be notified, in my opinion theres no justification in lying to the police.
I wouldn't have told the police in the first place that I knew the occupant was ok. Then they would have broken in. Also I believe the OP doesn't know for sure that the child is ok.
I don't think lying is right but in circumstances such as these I am afraid I would. I couldn't have an animal's death on my conscience if it were possible to do something.
Notifying people hasn't worked has it? The OP has seen one cat which looks ok but there could be other cats, or even other animals, that are not ok and by the time the police/rspca/who ever decide to do anything, if they ever do, it could be too late. The world is over 4 billion years old and yet you somehow managed to exist at the same time as David Bowie0 -
The OP in my opinion has done everything right. Breaking a window isn't the answer either, as if the cat gets out where the hell will it go?!
OP has told everyone they can.Thank you to everyone who posts comps! :A
I would like to be lucky,healthy & happy in 2020! :T0 -
I know you have reported to everyone you can but if it was me I would not stop with that. Phone the police yourself, phone the RSPCA again every hour if needs and keep phoning until someone comes.0

up-date
right 1st I couldn't lie to the police about her not being there because weeks ago, I rang the housing association, and told them she wasn't there, and complained about the state of the weeds in the garden, I also did it again 2 weeks ago, also told them I knew nobody was in the house because the wheelie bin, had not been put out, or even the lid lifted to put rubbish in.
So that will be down on record, then I rang on wed morning saying she wasn't there but the cat was.
So I was in a bit of a catch 22 with that, was thinking of asking the woman on the other side to ring the police as a concerned neighbour, as she's had no involvement in this, but she's away, sods law.
Anyway, had the police here for 2 hours this morning, sat in my kitchen, they went down all the alleyways, she's not in hospital, not on social services list, all this was being checked this morning. He tried all the windows and doors, and looked through the letterbox, and said there is not a dead person or pet smell, but it's not the cleanest and not the worse he's come across. He didn't see the cat.
But he said he can't kick the door in for a cat, he said it sounds harsh, but that's the way it was, all the time the housing association this morning were aware of what was going on.
10 mins after he left rspca turned up, again they can't go in, he's just put paper down the side of the front door and sellotape over the lock, and pushed a rspca card through, just incase it's opened over the weekend, he couldn't go in the back yard due to trespassing, told him the black box I put at the back of the gate, hadn't moved because I put it there the other night, it had when me and the bobby went in, but we put it back. (good idea bobby said) So he just put sellotape over the back gate, again to see if the gate has been opened.
Said he will come back tomorrow to see if it's been moved, then again on Monday when he will then be in touch with the housing association, and they will take action then.
Next up-date went to the shop for my paper after all this had finished, and the man in the shop asked me what was going on, as he'd seen the police car.
Told him the tale and he told me that she told him weeks ago she is moving out..........to live the other side of town with her boyfriend, but she's not giving the house up, the ex boyfriend may want to say in it. But the shopkeeper said he's not seen the ex boyfriend in his shop for about 2 weeks. (so is he nipping in and putting cat food down)
Told shop man that 1st thing Monday I am ringing the housing association (no good now it's just a hot line for repairs) and I will be telling them all that's gone on this weekend, and that I will letting them know what she said to him, and that they maybe in touch with him, to see if it's true. He said no problem he will tell them.
He's not sure when she moved, he looked in his book, as his shop is in the middle of an estate and everyone gets tick, he said she came in and paid up, but there's no date in his book as to when she did this.
So that is that.
I can't do anymore, i'm not prepared to break a window, the only thing is I wish i'd rang the housing association more or rang the rspca earlier........but I can't change that now.0 -
I can see your point about what you have said to the police OP. I really hope the police, the rspca or the housing association man up and do something.
It's difficult - not sure what I would do but I know OH would smash a window. He broke into a house years ago to rescue a dog that was being illtreated when the RSPCA didn't want to know (what's new there?). He went and told the police what he had done - they had a bit of a go at him but never took any action. Poor dog was so thin and his long fur completely knotted up. He had been kept in a cupboard under the stairs and was terrified of everyone and everythingThe world is over 4 billion years old and yet you somehow managed to exist at the same time as David Bowie0 -
Catkins, well done.Did you end up keeping the dog? it is beyond my comprehension how anyone can do that to an animal.Poor thing.
I do think however that the least someone could do is put some food through the letterbox.Even if it is being fed, that poor cat must be so lonely.I hope the situation gets sorted out very soon.0 -
I've bought go cat, and I've stuck a handful through the letter box, later on when it's dark i'll go and put more through, as it's not a big letter box.0
