Neighbours left this note at the bottom of our stair >>

This scenario always comes up in tenements
As it stands the note author probably thinks the bikes abandoned
You admit you havent used it on 6 months+
So it could have been in your house for 6 months and not clogging up the stair
If you are in a tenement then how about roof storage?I just don't see the problem!! If it was blocking an exit. Fine. If it was causing a problem for people getting up/down the stairs. Fine.
It's just cause she doesn't want it there that's !!!!ing me off as I don't know why she has a say?! She doesn't OWN that part of the building.
and the same argument could be laid at you0 -
You're being very defensive. If you are going to speak to the neighbour, I would wind your neck in a bit first."If you think it's expensive to hire a professional to do the job, wait until you hire an amateur." -- Red Adair0

That's kind of a bit hard when I don't actually know who left it. lol. I'm assuming it's #1, as I spoke to the owners of #2 (who we know better) and they said they have no problem with the bike being there.
There's 2 flats on one landing so I'm assuming #1 - they've done this before, left horribly written notes on the door.
The bike has been there for 2 years without issue. So...*sigh*
True, but it has also not been moved for 6 MONTHS, so the neighbour is doing the right thing and checking it hasn't been abandoned.
Our management company did the same thing in my block of flats for all the bikes in the bike shed. They tagged all of them, sent a letter to the flats asking people to claim ownership, then removed all bikes still tagged after 2 months.
Most flat leases state that NOTHING should be left in communal areas, regardless of whether it is in the way or not.Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')
No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)0 -
If you are in EdinburghAbandoned bikes in stairs. These can be a considerable problem in tenements, if they get left chained up. Please contact the Environmental Wardens at the City of Edinburgh Council on tel. 0131 200 2000 for help with getting these removed.
Edinburgh alone has an estimated 150,000 bikes, with the number growing every year as cycling becomes more popular. Don't let your old bike go to waste.
Then the council do action on abandoned bikes0 -
I just don't see the problem!!
...
It's just cause she doesn't want it there
If it doesn't belong to anyone who lives in the flats (a reasonable assumption if it's been there for 6 months without being moved) then I don't blame her for trying to get rid of it.
Either she could use the space herself, or someone else in the block could use the space (maybe, she might be thinking, the space could be used by that nice couple up on the fifth floor, opposite the elderly couple?) or the space remains empty and looks nicer for everyone living there.
If the bike has been abandoned then she is doing the right thing in trying to get it moved.
It looks like it has been abandoned but it hasn't been. So you need to tell them that. You don't need to be agressive or defensive about it. Understand why it looks like it has been abandoned. Maybe even have a joke with the woman about how your husband _still_ hasn't got around to fixing it. But tell her that he is still planning on fixing it and so you would like it left there.0 -
Scenario 1: You're not allowed to store items in the communal area so you should move it.
Scenario 2: You are allowed to store items and you're currently hogging a communal area with something you haven't touched for 6 months and counting. Other people may also like to use that space, so you should move it.
Sorry but either way I think you should move it out of the way and try to be a bit more considerate to others.0 -
^ that.
They might say they're not bothered about it being there. Should have spoken to them first.0 -
Ugh!! It's the way she did it!!
If she had said in her note.
Dear neighbours
I have noticed the bike in the stair is not in working order etc ... If this is your bike please let me know, otherwise I will contact the council and ask for it to be removed.
That's all!!0 -

That is pretty much exactly what the note says with different words.
A life tip: when you're frustrated and your only justification for the frustration is "if only they'd said x with different words!" it's a sign you're grasping at straws, in that situation it's best to tuck your tail between your legs and admit defeat 'cause you're not going to win if your argument hinges on adjectives (unless you're playing scrabble)0 -

I think you're over-reacting. The note seems quite reasonable to me.0
