Aldi! I am thinking of converting!

Some people must be unlucky and have a badly managed local store as I've never had anything go off the next day and it tastes the same as other supermarket veg. I bought a bag of carrots on Friday as part of the super 6, opened the plastic bag and kept them in the fridge. They are A1 quality today and will last for several more days.
I buy a lot of fruit and veg every week for both me and my parrot and I am very fussy what I give him and no way would he be given rotten fruit. It would cost me around £8 a week to buy his fruit and veg in other supermarkets so the Aldi super 6 offers and general fruit and veg prices are great for me.0 -
I think that carrots tend to go mouldy quickly because the suppliers wash and bag them without drying them. as soon as the air hits them then the bacteria multiplies. I now wash the whole bagful and dry them myself, as SOON as I get them home! and they keep much better now. I have never seen this problem with the carrots you can bag yourself.
my local Aldi have a brilliant produce section - the only problem is - is that word has got out and on Thursdays its now packed out there! Friday you will be lucky if any produce left! luckily I can see the store from my window so I know when they have had a delivery!0 -
I still find their product rotation policy (or lack of them a bit disturbing) I often see staff reaching behind the front outer cartons on the chilled cabinets of meat to the completely full outer cartons behind and having to remove them as they are out of date. One member of staff had 2 trollies full and only half way along the meat counter. I took him a carton of yoghurt that was 2 days out of date.
It is obvious the staff at my branch just put new deliveries at the front of the shelf. The sausages are my worry, where the cardboard sleeve with the date on it can be (and often is) separated from the pack it should be on.
having said that, a weeks shopping last week (including 2 bottles of toro loco) for £45.00!!!0 -

Think you should tell Aldi H/O.
I think they would be interested in how the Manager at that store is having such wastage.
In the end it's money they are losing.
Ps I think sock rotation is as good as the staff are taught. Saw at my local Aldi, the new part time youngster were being taught by the regular staff on how to rotate. The more I live, the more I learn.
The more I learn, the more I grow.
The more I grow, the more I see.
The more I see, the more I know.
The more I know, the more I see,
How little I know.!!0 -
an update on the stock rotation. I mentioned it to a store manager and he advised the central warehouse don't help them. They can have stock delivered with a particular date on and then have another delivery the following week with stock with an EARLIER bbe date on it. He was also sent a pallet of brandy butter (do you use this on any other day than Christmas day) with a bbe date of 10th December.
Either way, whether it is the stores fault or the warehouse, a lot of money is being lost.
We have now moved house and getting to know our new store well0
