i went to an aldi after being persuaded by my wife's friend it was the bees knees, it was a bit of a treck to get to but i didn't have anything better to do , had to pay for a trolley to start with which wasn't good esp as i didn't have any change , so then had to go to tesco for some cash back , once in i found stuff like cereals were in such small packets , lack of stuff that i normally get and then their check out and not being able to pack everything straight away so having to pack it twice was enough to put me off and then i had to go back to tesco to get all the stuff that i couldn't get , that was 3-4 years ago , so to get the best supermarket award suggests they must have changed , unless there's one built in my local town then i'm unlikely to go back0

i have persuaded my husband to take me to Aldi this afternoon for the first time! We have to drive there so want to do a big shop to make it worth while.
Any particular good deals on at the moment or good recommendations?
My husband uses Lynx anti persp but would like to try something cheaper.

Aldi do a copy of Lynx, think it's around 70-80p per can from memory. There's 3 different scents. My OH uses them and he says they are ok. They do roll on version as well as shower gel in the same scents.0 -
I think aldi has changed dramatically in the last few years as in terms of quality and product choice would recommend it to anyone, people may think it isn't cheap when they compare it to the big chains value products but it is reasonable and is a much higher quality than value ranges***** on the road to debt freedom *****

Totally skint right now so need to get myself to aldi I think! The trouble with the world is that the stupid are cocksure and the intelligent are full of doubt.Bertrand Russell0

Have recently changed from Asda to Lidl, farmfoods and home bargains and would say I am saving between £20-£30 per week. Don't know why I never shopped there sooner as even although you don't recognise the brand names they are better quality. Aldi is further out of the way but I like that as well 😀0

I agree about the packing thing if you are on your own shopping its all a rush they have great big long conveyor belts to put your shopping on which is great but after the checkout all you get is a small metal shelf and they dont give you anytime to pack your shopping .You end up just putting it back into the trolley loose then either load it into bags after you pay and move away from the checkouts or load it into your bags in the boot of the car which if its raining isnt the best.
Saying that I do use aldi and lidl because its cheaper but its definately a more stressful experience0 -
I don't find Aldi way cheaper but it's definitely cheaper some of the thing's i love are-
free range organic chicken
eggs
hummus
salmon
trifles
cleaning products
wipes and nappies
black bags and bin liners
honey
milk £1 for 2 litres
the posh yogurt's
parma ham which is a brand name
peanut butter
roast bagged potatoes
frozen pea's and sweetcorn
frozen cauliflower cheese
garlic bread frozen 2 pack
the lemon sole fish portion's 2 in a pack £1.49 are soo much nicer than bird eye's fish portion's
most of the veg/fruit
washing powder and so soft conditioner
the toilet rolls are OK, considering you chuck the stuff down the toilet no point in spending a bomb
It really is trial and error. The most annoying thing I find about Aldi is not being able to use credit card, lack of parking and the trolley's don't have a child strap on only the baby trolley's do. Overall I am an Aldi convert for the main bit's of our shop, I do pop in Asda and Tesco from time to time to get thing's that Aldi does not sell but I would definitely recommend Aldi.Win's of 2014 so far-Maxfactor mascara, £50 Pizza Express Voucher, Dr Oetker Pizza, Nuby sippy cup :j:beer:0 -

I'm a huge Aldi fan. The checkout carry on, in my opinion, is less stressful because you get to take your time packing your bags away from the checkout. Thats the whole idea, you aren't rushing, because there's no one behind you waiting to pay for their stuff.
I agree with everyone else about the recommendations but would like to add one thing which i discovered recently. Their Sangria, think it's called Sangriana. £2.99 a bottle and it's fantastic. Not sure how long they'll stock it for, but i'll be stocking up !0 -
I too am a recent Aldi convert as our most of my work mates. (Current topic of conversation in work)
I always shopped in either Tesco/ Asda however my food bill was rocketing and my quantity of goods going down!
We think we are taking about £20 per week off our bill!
The biggest thing I have been impressed with is the quality of the products... And there are so many product dupes
Off top of head below have aldi dupes we love / great quality
Mini cheddars
Doritos
Twix
Mars
Nutra grain
Cold meats are excellent
Cheese excellent
Fruit& veg been fine
DH has been impressed with Aldi red wine
Red pesto
Tortellini excellent
Cat food - no issues switching to aldi cat food
Lurpak - aldi do norpak and its fab
Give it a tryGoal - We want to be mortgages free :j
