BT do offer fibre, its just not available to a lot of people yet.

It's not fibre to your house (unless you are happy to pay about £1.5k).

I think they are trialling FTTP in a couple of places. It doesn't really matter what you call it though, even FTTC is significantly faster than ADSL and that's good enough for the time being.

That depends on what package you have. I used to have 120mb with them, and it was totally unlimited. Due to cost saving I am now on 30mb, and as yet I have never had my speed throttled.

If the OP id a heavy user, and wants high download speeds, then they would be better off with Virgin 120mb. But it often works out cheaper to have a phone line included, even if you don't use it.

All packages are throttled at peak times if you download too much including the 120mb package. They just have higher thresholds on the higher packages.

FTTP is designed for business use, and costs around £1500 to install. There is no need for a domestic user to have it. The 120mb on Virgin is fast enough for most peoples needs.

When I was on 120mb, there was no throttling. It has been introduced since. The reason for throttling to stop congestion at peak times.

Have the BT Fibre Package, and all has been fine with it - had £80 cashback from quidco, Sainsburys Giftcard on the way and BT Sports free.. I Did the 12 months advance line rental payment to make it slightly cheaper..

The problem with gauging feedback on here is that people are more likely to report on the problems.. e.g. Unhappy Customers tell more people than Happy customers do..

I think that you will find that all of the BB companies will have a lot of people with complaints about them. But in general I have been with Virgin and their predecessors for over 20 years. What I have found is that their service is reliable most of the time. But when you do have a problem they can be a nightmare to deal with. However I have heard just as bad (if not worse) about BT and Sky.

Which is my problem. I'm with BE, who've been sold to Sky.

In the 5 years I been with BE they've gone down twice for a total of about 10 hours.
I've the impression that with anyone else loss of service is a weekly, if not daily 'feature' of their company and you've no redress (other than a bit of line credit, which it no use if you can't do your work).

Surly in this day and age customers shouldn't have to put up with this level of crap service from these company's, who clearly lie in all their add's about how great they are...

You say that yet BT have installed FTTP to our residential estate and several others in Cornwall, it is the only choice I have as talking to the Openreach engineers that were doing the installation that is the only option as they are not installing FTTC in my particular area.

I am getting FTTP for the same price as FTTC.

I'm afraid you don't know what you're talking about.

FTTP is available in York, I've seen it with my own eyes installed in a friends house. There is fibre running directly into the house and its a residential property and not a business (and it didn't cost £1.5k either!).

    See here :

As I said previously its not available to a lot of people yet.
