I'll be leaving FD as a result of this secure key.
The main reason I stayed with them is because I had full access to internet banking wherever whenever without all of these devices. Now they're implemented this, along with their rubbish internet banking, poor apps and terrible quality bank cards, I'll be switching to another bank.
See'ya FD.
Also, just to add, you can only have the Secure Key App or the actual Secure Key, not both.
So whom will you move your banking to then? Most banks these days have some sort of security procedure in place to try and prevent fraudsters from gaining access to you account.
If you chose FD simply for there internet banking then you chose the wrong account in the first place, lets face it First Direct and HSBC don't have the best internet banking facilities compared to other banks.
At some point your just going to have to suck it up and use what ever security devices banks see fit to use!!Time is a path from the past to the future and back again. The present is the crossroads of both. :cool:0 -

AFAIK, Lloyds, Halifax, Santander don't use any devices yet (Santander do use a mobile to send a code).0 -

I was actually with HSBC before First Direct. As I mentioned in another post, I actually think HSBC have one of the better internet banking websites, but the secure key is an annoyance.
I much prefer other banks procedures such as Halifax, who will call you if you add a new recipient.0 -
This will be my reason for leaving first direct - I hate not being able to do complete interent banking unless I have my reader with me - I also prefer the telephone method - as I generally do have my phone with me!Weight loss challenge, lose 15lb in 6 weeks before Christmas.0

If HSBC implement the same 'secure key' into their new app being released soon, I can see many First Direct customers switching to HSBC. While they're the same bank, HSBC has a much better Internet Banking, a 03 number that doesn't cost an arm and a leg and has the same financial stability as FD.
FD do have a few good features/products, but other banks are moving into the 21st century a lot quicker.0 -

Personally I think improved security from FD is long overdue, their current system is wide open to attack as far as I can see.
Virus protection is not enough, the databases will always be at least one step behind the newest threats.0 -

Why have we then not had plenty of "my FD account has been hacked" posts here on MSE (where there appears to be a significant number of FD users, going by the number of FD users participating in the MSE survey)0 -
Whether lots of people claim to have been hacked or not, it is a fact that while most other banks request SMS codes, card readers, etc for unfamiliar transactions. First Direct rely on very primitive password methods with no further verification after that when setting up a new payee (unless this has changed recently). They have less barriers in place, on the front end systems at least, for unathorised activity.0
