Hmmm, I live in the country, and my nearest jobs are a 20 mile round trip. So are you saying that, if I have one job on, I can't undertake it if it pays less than £9 as I'll be making a loss?

Surely you should be asking yourself why you would do a 20 mile round trip for less than £9? If it's costing you more than you make why would you do the job?

https://www.journeyprice.co.uk suggests that a 20 mile journey will cost you £4.05 in petrol alone, let alone the wear and tear on the car and the time involved in doing the job.

The tax man would eat you alive if you don't have an answer to explain why you would spend £9 (HMRCs agreed cost for the journey) plus 2+ hours of your time to make no money, especially if you do it regularly.

I have to travel for most my work i'm lucky I work full time near the city about half hour from where I live so I can fit the odd shop in during the week on my way. So I dont record that mileage unless it's a few extra miles off route.

At the weekend I usually have to do a 30 mile round trip to get to any jobs. So I always try and get a few in the same area to make it worth my while. I wouldn't travel that sort of distance for one job.

I've got a doctors appointment today 15 miles away from where I live the cheap supermarket is in the same street. So I might as well go in buy a few things that I need it don't take long to fill out the questionnaire. Obviously I wont count the mileage.

The MF jobs are good if your in the area, they don't take long to complete. Even better if there food jobs I always try and fit a food job in at the weekend somewhere. saves cooking after a busy day.
  • I think I might have offended one of the well-known MS companies (not one of the ones in the first post - begins with A) and I was wondering if anyone knows whether I'm likely to be able to get back in their good books? I had to turn jown a job I'd shown interest in (for a genuine reason - that was explained) and the reply email I got sounded a bit 'off'. I haven't had any offer emails since. Does this sound familier to anyone or am I being paranoid???

Can you really see student's registering as SE and filling out tax returns at year end? I know mine wouldn't!

I know some that would and some that wouldn't.....and the ones that wouldn't, wouldn't even care, they'd still do the jobs.
  • Hello!

Another student and I are looking to speak to an experienced mystery shopper, someone who has been doing it for enough time that they would have worked at a range of places and will have plenty of stories to tell, to perhaps speak to either via the internet, on the phone or in person (if they live in London and have the time)
It would be really light-hearted and we only really want an account from a personal level, rather than an insight to any companies you have worked for.

If you would be available to do this, my email is lottie.j.fry@gmail.com or in fact, just reply via personal message on this website

    Thanks a million!

If you're considering starting shopping or writing about it, can I be the first to suggest getting some additional tuition on your written skills before you go any further?
Yes it's overwhelming, but what else can we do?
Get jobs in offices and wake up for the morning commute?

Does GFK have shares in a paper company – I have just printed 25 pages for their telephone call bank scenario. Wish they would only send you the scenario relevant to you rather than all the scenarios.

Having printed the pages and now done the call, the bank employee advised

    A) No idea about X , we don't provide this information over the phone – (this is after putting me on hold for 4 minutes to find out)

    B) To find out about X, I should visit a branch and make an appointment.

Made the report easy to do…

Associa - No, they take the hump real quick
Amber Arch - You are better off without them
ABAi - Don't worry, keep applying and you'll get something.

Print to PDF then only print the pages you need, store the PDF on your PC for later.
