Looks right, if in doubt, look in the front of your cheque book.
Yes it's overwhelming, but what else can we do?
Get jobs in offices and wake up for the morning commute?

The simplicity thing is attractive, but financially its better for me to do other way, with running and maintenance costs and higher insurance my biggest factors, plus I'm stuck doing it this way . 14p a mile would be a dream but with a 2.5l and the mileage/tyres/servicing I get through, not a chance :rotfl:

Problem there is accounting your work and personal mileage separately, otherwise you're basically awarding yourself a benefit in kind of personal miles in an expensed vehicle, something the tax man can be very hot on.

I used to have a personal car and an expensed work van, but I was robbing myself because the van cost peanuts to run, so now I just do the fixed price per mile and drive what suits. Although to be fair, I should technically claim a lower rate for the bike.

If you only take reimbursement only jobs, then it's not worth doing financially. View it as an 80% off treat. If you do paid jobs, then itis worth it - although how worth it is a subject of much debate around here.

That's why I don't personally do the MF pubs/meals as they seem to involve bringing somebody else along, as I am trying to make money.:)

Hi, I had contatced TNS about not receiving any payment today, but it's been resolved and I know why.

However they did advise that payments are made - Just once a month unless there is a special requirement for the project which causes it to be run twice. This is quite unusual though.

So I seem to have been advised by TNS that it is different and not like the twice as explained in the start of this thread. So perhaps maybe needs to be updated.

Gfk have increased the fees again on some (but not all) of the bank jobs. I'm still avoiding them!

Right ok, but I doubt I will pay tax next year as won't meet the threshold ( I may this year as only started uni Jan so I was working up till then). So basically it all counts as profit but since I wont get taxed I am pretty much getting free meals.

How about if you get a fee plus expenses, then is the fee your profit and the expense can actually be put as an expenses ?

If you are being paid for the meal and getting a fee, then in my case I am liable to pay tax on both the fee and the cost of the meal, as this is a 'benefit in kind'. In the case of MF the fee generally does not cover the cost of petrol or print costs or time to fill in the report and with the issue of having to pay for the extra meal I don't bother with these assignments as in effect its costing me to conduct an assignment for MF. Others may well see it differently as one meal is being subsidised, but for me I am doing MS work to generate another income.

It's hard working looking for jobs with Bare sometimes. There's a job in my town that only shows up if you search all the UK on the classic board, doesn't show up on the map view or in the counties. So I usually just scan down the UK list but there's loads today! I'll be there all day! :p
