The simplicity thing is attractive, but financially its better for me to do other way, with running and maintenance costs and higher insurance my biggest factors, plus I'm stuck doing it this way . 14p a mile would be a dream but with a 2.5l and the mileage/tyres/servicing I get through, not a chance :rotfl:

Yeah they don't suit everyone, I'm looking at the working from home figures and thinking I could justify a slightly higher amount

Guys, can you do a mixture of both? For example, choose the simple method for your home costs then separate costs for your vehicle, or vice versa?

It's just that I do my home costs separately, but do my vehicle costs the simplistic way.

You can not use method one for a benefit in kind, you have still received £50 in the form of a meal.

HMRC has now simplified the claiming of expenses when using your home and the things in your home.

    https://www.gov.uk/simpler-income-tax-simplified-expenses

You can choose to ignore them and claim more, you'll just have to justify wheat you claim if asked. They do make life easy if you are unsure though.

Ok so none of the cost of the meal can be included as my expenses ? Even though 50% of the food and drink bill will be for my guest since I have to take someone with me on the trip?

Also I was chatting to someone today and they have said I will have to pay business rates to the council now since I am self employed from home - is that correct? I'm thinking not since I am literally just using my laptop from my couch or sitting in the study to fill in reports.

It is starting to seem like this is hardly worth doing.

    Thanks

Correct - the meal IS the fee. None of it can be expenses

No, you don't have to pay business rates. If you were converting a room in your home to an office, with a bunch of office equipment, a PA, working from there full time and having visiting clients, then you might need to pay business rates (and your council tax would be reduced by one room).

If you only take reimbursement only jobs, then it's not worth doing financially. View it as an 80% off treat. If you do paid jobs, then itis worth it - although how worth it is a subject of much debate around here.
  • I've just started shopping with Gapbuster and i'm confused as to how i enter my bank details.

On the 'my profile' page where it says bank account number i tried just entering my bank account number and it popped up an error stating that it needed to be the sort code and the account number. I've entered it like this 010101-01010101 with the first number being the sort code and the second the bank account number. Is this correct? Do they not need to know any more details like the name of my bank?

I've completed my first mystery shop with them and i'm just worried i'm not going to get paid.
