But perhaps be a bit more careful if you know someone is in your area. I used to do a lot for Grassroots and mentioned it to one of my friends. She signed up and I wasn't offered another job from them for 2 years, which coincided with her moving to America. I am now really careful about what information I give.

I am just being logical here, stardom. You are saying that after you had told your friend about GR, you did not get offered any job from GR for 2 years. I have done few jobs for GR, and I understand that their phone & clothes shops, pharmacy & catalogue stores assignments are being offered to the same MS only every 3 months, in some cases they wait 4 months. I speak to them regularly by phone, but do correct me if I am wrong about the gaps between visits. Do you assume that ALL the jobs have been taking from you by your friend? We all know that as soon as GR put the jobs out, the fastest finger gets it first. I only get a job from GR because I have a smartphone, and I am able to go on their web site and apply for a job as soon as I get email on my iphone.

For MSs who are concerned about their jobs potentially being taken away:
There is a GFK advert leaflet about mystery shopping in my local library. Yes, MS brings me a good extra income, and it is my business, so shall I go and rip this leaflet off the wall?
  • I Actually think that opinions will differ depending on whether this is a full time or part time gig for you, if you rely on ms as a full time job which is very possible, why would you want all and sundry able to apply on somebody elses glowing recommendation?

There is also a diffrence between gfk advertising in your library, i can assure you they don't advertise in mine, not many people will take notice where as, if you are looking at this thread whether you comment or not, you are actively seeking information on ms work and so are likely to take more notice.

If people are as good as they think they are then then have nothing to fear. Few if any of the best jobs are FFF so why are they so bothered by competition.

In any case what people choose to post on an open forum is their business and not for anyone else to try and censor.

    I would. Wouldnt hesitate.

Competition doesnt help my business at all, it just makes it harder to pay the rent.

Similarly with tactical work.If I see a job that has been done badly or not at all I will phone up the agency and offer to do the work. I am dobbing the person in it and I will, hopefully, see the benefit in getting more work from that agency. They also benefit by getting a decent job done.

If someone has a query on a job - that is about doing the job properly (do I need a picture, where do i find this etc) then I would expect them to be given help. If its - I am looking at potentially taking away your business then good luck with that.

ljshopper, I would leave this leaflet alone. MysteryMe summed up pretty well what I think. The more I know and the more I can do, the more valuable I become to any MS company. Oh, and I keep in mind that my competition goes far beyond my local library.

This was before Grassroots had their fastest finger first system, when they used to allocate by email. No, I don't imagine that she did every single round, but perhaps they had 3 others that they always used and they my friend took the 4th slot? I don't know. But I know from my records that they next job I got from them was when they introduced their FFF system shortly after my friend emigrated.

We all do fff work at times, it would be daft to make it easy for others to reduce those opportunities for yourself.

    Every little helps.
  • Just wanting to check I have my tax calculations correct, based on the
theoretical job below, can someone tell me what profit figure they get (i know it will probably be negative)
    Fee = £9.5 Purchase required £5 Actual spend £5.45
Mileage 13.6 miles Pages printed 9. No other expense.
    Thanks

    Read page one, post one.

That only gives a list of companies.

The poster is asking "So my question is, which other MS companies would you recommend?"

There is a difference between factual information and opinion.

Not sure on the tax, but why did you bother?
Yes it's overwhelming, but what else can we do?
Get jobs in offices and wake up for the morning commute?
