Spoof email from BT about email account

I've sent an email to Warren Buckley himself for clarification.0

Well, Warren's office say that the email is legitimate.
Great - now I've got a few short weeks to find a new email provider, move all my emails, contacts, and let all my friends & businesses know that my email address has changed! :mad:0 -
Is it because you had that email address via an old dial-up account (which presumably BT don't do any more)?
And hence you're not paying them money.
Not that this bothers the likes of GMail or Hotmail etc. who presumably support the email addresses from advertising, even though they don't noticeably have more adverts on their website that BT do.
It's pretty poor that the original email had links which were to some other apparently random company and not BT itself.0 -

the links would be that of their marketing company like Mailchimp and would have redirected you to a BT page.
I cant see the point of people having hosted websites that come with email feature, but never use the email feature and go with free emails that make you look unprofessional.
ie. joeplumbers.com using emails joe@gmail.com rather than joe@joeplumbers.com
which looks more professional0 -
BT outsource a lot of their mass emails to planning-inc.co.uk, so their address often shows up if you hover over the links.
Be careful. The phishers have been getting more clever recently. I have received emails that are exact copies of genuine BT emails, just with the links changed. If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.0 -

simple hover over link ( dont click) and if it looks strange ( phishers cant spell so they use things like fsgsdttashs.pl but it is alway good to open the email header and check the originating IP with a service like http://whois.domaintools.com/0 -
Was a bit dubious at first but found a page on BT site that is is for real. BT Yahoo website is also closing see via URL: bt.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/44789/?s_cid=con_FURL_email_newemail (put HTTP:// in front - wouldn't let me post full link!)
Just about completed the task of changing over logins etc to my GMail account. There is a setting in GMail called "Mail Fetcher" where you can set it up to suck emails from another email account. All I did was to move all the emails I wanted to keep to my BT Yahoo inbox and waited for them to arrive in GMail when I then filed them into correct sections. Hope that helps.0 -

Thanks for the heads up about the Gmail "Mail Fetcher". That will save me loads of time! Cheers.0 -
So, let me get this straight.
I sign up for a free email account over 12 years ago via an interactive Sky Box and then go on to use that email address as my main email.
Now they decide they are going to close my email unless I either pay for broadband or pay £1.60 a month to keep it going.
Am I missing something here, or is this not just immoral but surely illegal??
It's only recently our useless government in all its wisdom made everyone who receives any kind of benefit, to do so through a bank account. A bank account that is forever linked with the primary email address.
So, when these people who only occasionally check their emails try to log in after September 16, will be horrified that they can't log in anymore?
I think this is a very serious issue that should be raised with our useless government before they force these changes.
Anyone else agree? Or is it just me that thinks this way?Not been in here for years. Life got hectic!0 -
